Job Summary
The Night Drilling Supervisor is responsible for overseeing and managing all drilling, completion, and workover operations during night shifts on an offshore rig. The role ensures that operations are executed in strict compliance with Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) standards, approved drilling programs, and company policies. The Night Drilling Supervisor will work closely with rig crews, contractors, and service companies to ensure safe, efficient, and cost-effective operations while maintaining clear communication and documentation.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
- Operational Supervision:
- Supervise offshore drilling, completion, and workover operations during night shifts to ensure safe and efficient execution of approved drilling programs.
- Monitor operational performance against Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and ensure adherence to safety, quality, and cost objectives.
- HSE Compliance:
- Ensure full compliance with HSE policies, standards, and procedures, including conducting risk assessments, managing emergency response protocols, and leading incident investigations.
- Implement pollution prevention measures and ensure environmental protection standards are upheld.
- Logistics & Materials Management:
- Manage rig-site logistics and materials, including planning, call-offs, equipment movements, and inventory control to support uninterrupted operations.
- Ensure that all equipment is inspected, maintained, and ready for use as required.
- Reporting & Documentation:
- Provide clear and accurate reporting, including daily drilling reports (DDR), progress updates, and lessons learned.
- Maintain thorough records of operations, incidents, and corrective actions taken.
- Coordination & Leadership:
- Coordinate with rig crews, contractors, and service companies to ensure alignment with drilling programs and operational objectives.
- Lead risk assessment and mitigation activities for rig moves, equipment handling, and other high-risk operations.
- Performance & Cost Monitoring:
- Monitor operational costs and resource utilization to ensure efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
- Identify opportunities for improvement in safety, efficiency, and operational performance.
Minimum Requirements
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, preferably in Petroleum, Mechanical, or a related field.
- Experience:
- Significant experience in offshore drilling operations, with prior experience in a supervisory or leadership role.
- Demonstrated knowledge of HSE standards, risk management, and incident investigation in an offshore environment.
- Certifications:
- Valid offshore survival and medical certificates (e.g., BOSIET, HUET).
- Relevant industry certifications (e.g., IWCF/IADC Well Control certification) are highly desirable.
- Skills:
- Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work effectively under pressure and in a dynamic offshore environment.
- Proficiency in drilling software and reporting tools.
Working Conditions
- Schedule: Night shifts, typically 12 hours per shift, on a rotational basis (e.g., 14 days on/14 days off).
- Environment: Offshore drilling rig with exposure to harsh weather conditions, noise, and potential hazards.
- Physical Requirements: Must be physically fit to work in an offshore environment and capable of wearing personal protective equipment (PPE) for extended periods.
