Position Title: General Accountant
Department: Finance & Accounting
Reports To: Accounting Manager or Senior Accountant
Position Summary:
The General Accountant is responsible for performing essential accounting tasks to ensure the accurate and timely maintenance of financial records. This role focuses on day-to-day transaction processing, account reconciliation, and supporting the month-end close process. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, has a solid grasp of core accounting principles, and is proficient with accounting software.
Key Responsibilities:
- Transaction Processing:
- Record day-to-day financial transactions, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general journal entries.
- Process employee expense reports and ensure compliance with company policies.
- Handle bank deposits and monitor company credit card activity.
- Account Reconciliation & Maintenance:
- Perform monthly bank reconciliations and reconcile key balance sheet accounts (e.g., cash, credit cards, prepaids).
- Maintain and reconcile the fixed asset ledger and calculate monthly depreciation.
- Assist with inter-company transaction tracking and reconciliation.
- Month-End & Reporting Support:
- Assist in the preparation of monthly journal entries and accruals.
- Support the month-end and year-end closing processes to ensure deadlines are met.
- Generate routine financial reports (e.g., trial balance, expense summaries) for review by management.
- Compliance & Administration:
- Ensure all financial transactions comply with company policies and relevant regulations.
- Maintain organized and accurate electronic and paper filing systems for all accounting documents.
- Assist with internal and external audit requests by providing supporting documentation.
- Support accounts payable and receivable functions as needed.
Qualifications & Skills:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Experience: 1-3 years of relevant accounting experience. Experience with entry-level staff accountant or full-cycle bookkeeping roles is applicable.
- Technical Skills:
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel (PivotTables, VLOOKUPs).
- Hands-on experience with accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, SAP, Oracle, NetSuite).
- Understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
- Soft Skills:
- High degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
