Position Title: Senior Accountant
Department: Finance & Accounting
Reports To: Accounting Manager, Controller, or Director of Finance
Position Summary:
The Senior Accountant plays a critical role in ensuring the integrity of accounting information and the timely completion of the financial close. This position is responsible for complex accounting activities, analysis, and process improvement. The Senior Accountant acts as a subject matter expert, mentors junior staff, and provides key insights to support management decision-making.
Key Responsibilities:
- Financial Closing & Reporting:
- Lead the preparation and execution of the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close process.
- Prepare complex journal entries, accruals, and adjustments (e.g., revenue recognition, lease accounting, equity compensation).
- Prepare and analyze financial statements (Balance Sheet, Income Statement, Cash Flow) and present findings to management.
- Perform in-depth flux (variance) analysis for management reporting.
- Technical Accounting & Analysis:
- Research and apply technical accounting standards (GAAP) to complex transactions.
- Perform account reconciliations for high-risk and complex balance sheet accounts.
- Lead the preparation of supporting schedules for audits and tax filings.
- Develop and maintain internal control procedures to ensure compliance and safeguard assets.
- Process Improvement & Leadership:
- Identify, recommend, and implement process improvements to streamline accounting operations and enhance reporting accuracy.
- Mentor, train, and review the work of junior accountants and general accountants.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with other departments (e.g., FP&A, Operations, HR) to provide financial guidance and ensure accurate financial data flow.
- Compliance & Projects:
- Serve as the primary point of contact for external auditors, managing the preparation of audit schedules and PBC (Provided By Client) lists.
- Assist with corporate tax provision preparation and liaise with tax consultants.
- Lead or contribute to special projects, such as system implementations, process automation, or M&A integration.
Qualifications & Skills:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. CPA certification or active progress toward it is strongly preferred.
- Experience: 4-7+ years of progressive accounting experience, including demonstrated experience with the full financial close cycle and financial statement preparation. Public accounting (Big 4 or national firm) experience is a plus.
- Technical Skills:
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel (complex formulas, macros).
- Extensive experience with mid to large-tier ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, NetSuite, Microsoft Dynamics).
- Deep knowledge of GAAP and experience with technical accounting research.

- Superior communication skills, with the ability to explain complex accounting concepts to non-financial personnel.
