Objective:
To perform skilled work in masonry, plastering, painting, and general surface repair to maintain and enhance the structural and aesthetic integrity of the hotel's buildings, interiors, and exteriors. This dual-skill role is essential for preventative maintenance and quick response to repair needs.
Key Responsibilities:
A. Masonry & Plastering Duties:
- Brick, Block, & Stone Work: Repair and maintain brick walls, block partitions, stone facades, and pavers. Perform pointing, re-laying, and patching as needed.
- Plastering & Drywall: Prepare surfaces, mix plaster, and apply coats to walls and ceilings to achieve a smooth finish. Repair cracks, holes, and water damage in plaster and drywall.
- Concrete Work: Pour, finish, and repair concrete floors, sidewalks, and structural elements. Apply waterproofing and sealing compounds.
- Tile Work: Assist with or perform basic repair of ceramic, porcelain, and stone tiles on floors and walls, including re-grouting and replacement of broken tiles.
B. Painting & Finishing Duties:
- Surface Preparation: Prepare surfaces for painting by scraping, sanding, filling cracks, and applying primers. Ensure surfaces are clean, dry, and smooth.
- Painting Application: Apply paint, varnish, stain, and other finishes to interior and exterior surfaces (walls, ceilings, doors, trim, furniture, etc.) using brushes, rollers, and sprayers. Match existing paint colors accurately.
- Specialty Finishes: May be required to apply wallpaper, decorative finishes, or specialty coatings as per hotel standards.
- Area Protection: Properly mask, cover, and protect furniture, floors, and fixtures before beginning work. Clean work area thoroughly after job completion.
C. General Maintenance & Repair:
- Perform preventative maintenance on building exteriors and hardscapes.
- Repair and maintain window frames, door frames, and other wooden or metal structures as related to masonry and painting.
- Identify and report major structural issues to the Chief Engineer.
- Maintain tools and equipment in good working order, reporting any malfunctions.
D. Safety & Compliance:
- Adhere to all safety protocols, especially when working at heights, using ladders/scaffolding, and handling chemicals (paints, thinners, acids).
- Ensure proper ventilation when painting or using chemicals.
- Follow environmental guidelines for the disposal of waste materials (paint, solvents, etc.).
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- ITI / Vocational training in Masonry, Painting, or a related field is preferred.
- Proven experience (3+ years) as a Mason, Painter, or in a combined role, preferably in a hotel, hospital, or large commercial facility.
- Strong working knowledge of materials, methods, and tools involved in construction, repair, and finishing.
- Ability to mix and match colors and materials.
- Physical strength and stamina to perform manual labor, lift heavy materials, and work in various conditions (heights, confined spaces).
- Attention to detail and a pride in craftsmanship.
- Ability to read basic instructions and work orders.
