Job Overview:
We are seeking a highly qualified and enthusiastic Physics Teacher to join our Science Department. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of physics principles and a talent for making abstract concepts accessible and exciting for high school students. This role involves teaching a range of physics topics, from classical mechanics to modern physics, through a combination of theoretical instruction, mathematical modeling, and hands-on laboratory experimentation. The teacher will prepare students for further study in STEM fields and foster a deep appreciation for the laws that govern the physical world.
Key Responsibilities:
- Curriculum Development & Instruction:
- Plan, prepare, and deliver rigorous and engaging physics lessons aligned with the school's curriculum and standards (e.g., NGSS, AP, IB).
- Teach key physics concepts, including kinematics, dynamics, energy, waves, electricity, magnetism, and quantum mechanics.
- Guide students in applying mathematical tools (algebra, trigonometry, calculus) to solve complex physics problems.
- Develop and supervise laboratory experiments that allow students to investigate physical phenomena, collect and analyze data, and test hypotheses.
- Assessment & Evaluation:
- Design and grade assessments such as problem sets, lab reports, quizzes, and exams that accurately measure student understanding of both conceptual and mathematical aspects of physics.
- Provide detailed feedback to help students refine their problem-solving skills and scientific reasoning.
- Prepare students for AP/IB Physics examinations or other standardized tests as required.
- Classroom & Laboratory Management:
- Foster a stimulating and challenging classroom environment that encourages critical thinking and intellectual curiosity.
- Maintain a safe and well-organized laboratory, ensuring all equipment is in good working order and that students adhere to strict safety guidelines.
- Collaboration & Communication:
- Collaborate with other science and math teachers to create cross-curricular connections.
- Communicate student progress, successes, and areas for improvement to parents/guardians in a timely and professional manner.
- Participate actively in department meetings and school-wide professional development.
- Extracurricular & Professional Development:
- Mentor students interested in science fairs, physics olympiads, or robotics competitions.
- Stay current with developments in the field of physics and best practices in physics education through continuous learning.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Physics, Engineering Physics, or Physics Education (Master’s degree strongly preferred).
- Valid state teaching certification in Physics or a related science field.
- Proven experience teaching Physics at the high school level, including experience with AP or IB curricula is highly desirable.
- Strong grasp of advanced mathematics and its application to physics.
- Excellent laboratory management and safety skills.
- Exceptional communication and the ability to explain complex ideas clearly.
