Job Overview:
We are seeking an energetic and innovative Science Teacher to inspire the next generation of scientists, critical thinkers, and problem-solvers. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching a broad range of scientific concepts, fostering inquiry-based learning, and developing students' scientific literacy. This role involves creating a hands-on, laboratory-focused learning environment where students are encouraged to ask questions, design experiments, and analyze data.
Key Responsibilities:
- Curriculum Development & Instruction:
- Plan, prepare, and deliver inquiry-based science lessons that align with the school's curriculum and NGSS (or equivalent state) standards.
- Teach core scientific disciplines, which may include Biology, Chemistry, Earth Science, and Environmental Science, depending on grade level and expertise.
- Facilitate engaging and safe laboratory experiments that reinforce theoretical concepts and develop students' practical skills.
- Integrate technology, data analysis, and modeling into the curriculum.
- Assessment & Evaluation:
- Design and administer a variety of assessments, including lab reports, research projects, tests, and quizzes, to measure student understanding.
- Provide students with constructive feedback to guide their learning and scientific reasoning.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of student progress.
- Classroom & Laboratory Management:
- Create a positive and rigorous learning environment that promotes scientific inquiry and collaboration.
- Ensure the safety of all students in the laboratory by enforcing strict safety protocols and proper handling of equipment and materials.
- Manage and maintain laboratory equipment, supplies, and inventory.
- Collaboration & Communication:
- Collaborate with other science teachers to plan interdisciplinary units and ensure curriculum alignment.
- Communicate effectively with parents and guardians about student progress and classroom activities.
- Participate in department meetings, school committees, and professional learning communities.
- Extracurricular & Professional Development:
- Participate in or lead extracurricular activities, such as Science Fair, Robotics Club, or Environmental Club.
- Stay abreast of current scientific discoveries and advancements in science education through ongoing professional development.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in a science field (Biology, Chemistry, Physics, etc.) or Science Education. Master’s degree preferred.
- Valid state teaching certification in secondary Science.
- Proven experience teaching science at the middle or high school level.
- Strong understanding of inquiry-based learning and laboratory safety.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Passion for science and a commitment to fostering scientific curiosity in students.
