Job Summary:
This is an excellent opportunity for a passionate and driven individual to launch their culinary career in a professional pastry kitchen. As a Commis Pastry, you will work under the guidance of senior pastry chefs, learning the fundamentals of pastry arts while assisting in the preparation and production of a wide range of desserts and baked goods. We are looking for a candidate with a positive attitude, a strong work ethic, and a genuine desire to learn and grow within a high-performing team.
Key Responsibilities:
- Mise en Place & Preparation:
- Prepare basic pastry components such as doughs, creams, mousses, fillings, and syrups according to recipes and specifications.
- Measure and mix ingredients accurately.
- Assist in the preparation of fruits, chocolates, and garnishes.
- Set up and organize workstations with necessary tools and ingredients.
- Production Support:
- Support the pastry team in the production of daily desserts, plated items, breads, and buffet displays.
- Assist with the baking of cakes, cookies, and other pastries.
- Learn and execute basic finishing techniques, such as glazing, piping, and plating under supervision.
- Cleanliness & Organization:
- Maintain a clean, organized, and sanitary work environment in accordance with health and safety regulations.
- Properly handle and store all food items according to HACCP guidelines (labeling, dating, rotation).
- Assist with the cleaning of equipment, tools, and work surfaces.
- Help with receiving and organizing deliveries.
- Learning & Development:
- Actively learn from senior chefs by observing, asking questions, and practicing techniques.
- Study recipes, ingredient functions, and fundamental pastry methods.
- Demonstrate a willingness to take on new tasks and responsibilities.
Qualifications & Requirements:
- Experience: Some previous experience in a kitchen environment is a plus (e.g., internship, stage, or entry-level kitchen job), but a strong passion and willingness to learn are most important.
- Education: Enrolled in or a recent graduate of a culinary or pastry arts program is highly desirable.
- Skills: Basic understanding of kitchen hygiene and safety. Ability to follow instructions and recipes accurately.
- Personal Attributes: Punctual, reliable, and professional. High level of attention to detail. Ability to work well in a team. Physical stamina to stand for long hours and lift heavy items. A genuine passion for pastry and baking.
