Job Summary
A Welding Engineer is responsible for planning, developing, and supervising welding processes and operations to ensure quality, safety, and efficiency in manufacturing, fabrication, and construction projects. The role involves selecting welding methods, ensuring compliance with engineering standards, inspecting weld quality, and supporting production teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement welding procedures and specifications
- Supervise welding operations and fabrication activities
- Ensure compliance with welding codes, standards, and safety regulations
- Inspect and evaluate weld quality and workmanship
- Prepare Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS) and Procedure Qualification Records (PQR)
- Coordinate with production, quality control, and project teams
- Analyze welding defects and recommend corrective actions
- Select appropriate welding materials, equipment, and techniques
- Conduct welder qualification tests and performance evaluations
- Review engineering drawings and technical documentation
- Support cost estimation and project planning activities
- Maintain welding records and technical reports
Required Skills
- Strong knowledge of welding processes and metallurgy
- Familiarity with welding standards such as ASME, AWS, API, or ISO
- Problem-solving and analytical skills
- Ability to read engineering and fabrication drawings
- Quality inspection and testing knowledge
- Leadership and team coordination abilities
- Good communication and technical reporting skills
- Proficiency in engineering software and MS Office
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Welding Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, or related field
- Certification in welding inspection or welding engineering preferred
- Experience in fabrication, construction, oil & gas, or manufacturing industries
- Knowledge of NDT (Non-Destructive Testing) methods preferred
