Job Title: Metallurgy Engineer (Materials / Metallurgical Engineer)
Job Summary
The Metallurgy Engineer is responsible for studying, developing, testing, and selecting metals and alloys used in manufacturing and industrial applications. The role ensures materials meet required mechanical, chemical, and performance standards for durability, safety, and efficiency in production or construction environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Analyze and select appropriate metals and alloys for specific engineering applications.
- Conduct material testing such as tensile strength, hardness, fatigue, and corrosion resistance tests.
- Evaluate material properties to ensure compliance with project and industry specifications.
- Investigate material failures and provide root cause analysis with corrective actions.
- Develop and improve metallurgical processes such as casting, forging, welding, and heat treatment.
- Review and interpret material standards, specifications, and technical drawings.
- Collaborate with design, production, and quality teams to ensure material suitability.
- Monitor and control quality of raw materials and finished products.
- Support welding procedures, qualification tests, and inspection processes.
- Ensure compliance with international standards (ASTM, ISO, ASME, etc.).
- Prepare technical reports, material certifications, and documentation.
- Assist in research and development of new materials and alloys.
- Recommend cost-effective material solutions without compromising quality or safety.
Required Skills
- Strong knowledge of materials science and metallurgy principles.
- Understanding of metal processing techniques (casting, welding, heat treatment, etc.).
- Experience with material testing equipment and laboratory procedures.
- Analytical and problem-solving skills for failure analysis.
- Knowledge of engineering standards (ASTM, ISO, ASME, etc.).
- Ability to interpret technical drawings and material specifications.
- Strong attention to detail and documentation skills.
- Good communication and coordination skills.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Metallurgical Engineering, Materials Science, or related field.
- 2–6+ years of experience in metallurgy, materials testing, or quality control.
- Experience in manufacturing, oil & gas, construction, or heavy industries is preferred.
- Certifications in materials testing or welding inspection are an advantage.
