General Foreman – Job Description
Job Title: General Foreman / Senior Foreman
Department: Construction / Site Operations / Projects
Reports To: Site Engineer / Construction Manager / Project Manager
Job Summary
A General Foreman is responsible for supervising and coordinating all site-level construction activities, ensuring that work is executed safely, efficiently, and according to project drawings, specifications, and schedules. The role manages multiple foremen and work crews, ensuring smooth day-to-day site operations and productivity.
Key Responsibilities
Site Supervision & Coordination
- Supervise daily construction activities across multiple work fronts.
- Coordinate between different trades (civil, mechanical, electrical, etc.).
- Assign tasks to foremen, supervisors, and labor teams.
- Ensure smooth workflow and productivity at site.
Workforce Management
- Lead and manage teams of foremen and skilled/unskilled workers.
- Monitor manpower allocation and performance.
- Ensure proper discipline, attendance, and work efficiency.
- Resolve workforce-related issues on site.
Work Execution & Quality Control
- Ensure all work is carried out as per approved drawings and specifications.
- Inspect ongoing work and ensure quality standards are met.
- Identify defects and ensure corrective actions are taken.
- Coordinate with QA/QC and site engineers for inspections.
Planning & Progress Monitoring
- Monitor daily site progress and report delays or issues.
- Ensure work is completed as per project schedule.
- Assist in planning work sequences and resource requirements.
- Coordinate with site engineers for progress updates.
Safety Management (HSE)
- Enforce safety rules and regulations at site.
- Ensure workers use proper PPE at all times.
- Conduct toolbox talks and safety briefings.
- Report hazards, incidents, and unsafe practices immediately.
Material & Equipment Management
- Monitor usage of materials and prevent wastage.
- Ensure proper handling and storage of construction materials.
- Coordinate equipment usage and site logistics.
- Report material shortages or requirements.
Coordination & Communication
- Liaise with site engineers, project engineers, and management.
- Communicate daily instructions to foremen and workers.
- Attend site meetings and report progress updates.
- Coordinate with subcontractors and vendors.
Documentation & Reporting
- Maintain daily work reports and site records.
- Report manpower, equipment usage, and progress status.
- Document site issues and resolutions.
- Assist in preparation of progress reports.
Required Qualifications
- Diploma or Technical Certification in Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, or related field (preferred).
- 5–15+ years of experience in construction site supervision or foreman roles.
- Experience in EPC, infrastructure, building, industrial, or oil & gas projects preferred.
