Mechanical Site Inspector
Job Summary
The Mechanical Site Inspector is responsible for inspecting, monitoring, and verifying mechanical installation works on construction sites to ensure compliance with approved drawings, specifications, project standards, and applicable codes. The role covers HVAC, plumbing, firefighting, piping, and mechanical equipment installations, ensuring quality, safety, and timely execution of works.
Key Responsibilities
- Inspect mechanical installation works including HVAC systems, ducting, chilled water piping, plumbing, drainage, and fire protection systems.
- Ensure all mechanical works comply with approved drawings, specifications, and project requirements.
- Verify installation quality of equipment such as pumps, chillers, AHUs, FCUs, valves, and pipework systems.
- Conduct routine site inspections and quality checks on materials and workmanship.
- Witness testing and commissioning activities such as pressure testing, flushing, leak testing, and system balancing.
- Review and monitor contractor compliance with method statements and approved procedures.
- Identify, report, and track non-conformances and ensure corrective actions are implemented.
- Maintain detailed inspection reports, daily site records, and photographic documentation.
- Coordinate with site engineers, contractors, consultants, and other disciplines.
- Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental (HSE) requirements on site.
- Verify quantities of completed work for measurement and payment purposes when required.
- Assist in reviewing shop drawings, material submittals, and technical documentation.
- Support resolution of technical and installation issues on site.
- Participate in site meetings and provide updates on mechanical work progress.
Required Qualifications
- Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
- 3–8+ years of experience in mechanical site inspection or construction supervision.
- Experience in building services, MEP, or infrastructure projects.
Required Skills
- Strong knowledge of mechanical systems (HVAC, plumbing, fire fighting, piping systems).
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, schematics, and specifications.
- Familiarity with QA/QC procedures and inspection standards.
- Knowledge of testing and commissioning procedures.
- Understanding of applicable mechanical codes and standards (ASHRAE, NFPA, SMACNA, or local codes).
- Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
- Good communication and reporting abilities.
- Ability to coordinate with multidisciplinary teams and contractors.
- Basic computer skills (MS Office and reporting tools).
Working Conditions
- Full-time site-based role in active construction environments.
- Exposure to outdoor and indoor mechanical installation areas.
- May require extended working hours depending on project schedules.
- Frequent movement across construction and installation zones.
