Job Summary
The Senior Planning Engineer is responsible for developing, monitoring, and controlling project schedules to ensure the successful execution of engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning (EPCC/EPC) projects. The role involves preparing detailed project plans, analyzing progress, identifying schedule risks, and providing strategic planning support to project teams to ensure projects are delivered on time and within contractual requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain integrated project schedules using Primavera P6 or Microsoft Project.
- Prepare Work Breakdown Structures (WBS), project baselines, milestones, and critical path analyses.
- Monitor project progress and update schedules based on engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning activities.
- Perform Critical Path Method (CPM) scheduling and identify schedule risks and delays.
- Analyze schedule performance using Earned Value Management (EVM) and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
- Prepare weekly and monthly progress reports, dashboards, S-curves, manpower histograms, and look-ahead schedules.
- Coordinate with engineering, procurement, construction, QA/QC, and HSE teams to ensure alignment with project schedules.
- Evaluate contractor and subcontractor schedules for compliance with contract requirements.
- Conduct schedule impact analyses for variations, change orders, and extension of time (EOT) claims.
- Identify potential delays and recommend recovery plans and mitigation strategies.
- Participate in project review meetings and provide schedule updates to management and clients.
- Support project cost control by integrating schedule and resource planning where applicable.
- Ensure planning activities comply with contractual obligations, company procedures, and project standards.
- Maintain accurate planning documentation and project records throughout the project lifecycle.
- Mentor junior planning engineers and provide technical guidance on scheduling best practices.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
- 7–12 years of planning and scheduling experience in EPC, construction, infrastructure, oil and gas, petrochemical, power, or industrial projects.
- Professional certifications such as PMP, PSP (Planning & Scheduling Professional), or equivalent are preferred.
Technical Skills
- Advanced proficiency in Primavera P6.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Project.
- Strong understanding of CPM scheduling and project controls.
- Experience with Earned Value Management (EVM) and schedule performance analysis.
- Ability to prepare S-curves, cash flow forecasts, manpower histograms, and resource-loaded schedules.
- Knowledge of engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning workflows.
- Familiarity with FIDIC contracts, extension of time (EOT) claims, and delay analysis techniques.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Power BI, and other reporting tools.
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings, project specifications, and contract documents.
