Job Summary
The Mechanical Inspector is responsible for inspecting and monitoring mechanical installation works to ensure compliance with approved drawings, project specifications, contract requirements, applicable codes, and quality standards. The role involves conducting site inspections, witnessing testing and commissioning activities, verifying workmanship, documenting inspection findings, and coordinating with contractors, consultants, and project teams to ensure the successful completion of mechanical systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct daily inspections of mechanical installation works to ensure compliance with approved drawings, specifications, and contract requirements.
- Inspect mechanical systems including:
- HVAC systems (air handling units, chillers, ductwork, piping, and ventilation)
- Plumbing and drainage systems
- Fire protection systems (sprinklers, fire pumps, hydrants, and piping)
- Water supply and pumping systems
- Mechanical equipment installation
- Process piping and utility systems (where applicable)
- Verify that materials and equipment delivered to site conform to approved submittals, manufacturer specifications, and project requirements.
- Review shop drawings, material submittals, method statements, and Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs).
- Witness inspections, pressure tests, hydrostatic tests, flushing, balancing, functional testing, and pre-commissioning activities.
- Monitor installation quality and ensure compliance with applicable mechanical codes and industry standards.
- Prepare inspection reports, daily site reports, and quality documentation.
- Issue Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs) for non-compliant work and verify implementation of corrective actions.
- Coordinate with civil, electrical, architectural, QA/QC, and HSE teams to ensure smooth project execution.
- Monitor contractor performance and verify that mechanical works are completed according to approved schedules.
- Attend site meetings and provide updates on inspection findings and project progress.
- Support testing, commissioning, system start-up, and project handover activities.
- Maintain accurate inspection records, test reports, and project documentation.
- Ensure all inspection activities comply with Health, Safety, Environment, and Quality (HSEQ) requirements.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
- 3–8 years of experience in mechanical inspection, construction supervision, or QA/QC for commercial, industrial, infrastructure, or EPC projects.
- Experience with engineering consultants, project management consultants (PMC), or mechanical contractors is preferred.
Technical Skills
- Strong knowledge of mechanical installation methods and construction practices.
- Ability to interpret mechanical drawings, piping layouts, HVAC schematics, and technical specifications.
- Knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, fire protection, piping, and mechanical equipment installation.
- Familiarity with international standards and codes such as ASME, ASTM, NFPA, SMACNA, ASHRAE, IPC, and local mechanical regulations.
- Experience with inspection procedures, testing, balancing, and commissioning activities.
- Understanding of QA/QC processes, Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs), and quality documentation.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and AutoCAD; familiarity with BIM tools (e.g., Revit, Navisworks) is an advantage.
- Knowledge of mechanical safety practices and Permit-to-Work (PTW) systems.

- Professional certifications related to mechanical inspection, quality management, or HVAC systems are an advantage.

Working Conditions
- Primarily site-based with frequent inspections of mechanical installation activities.
- Regular coordination with contractors, consultants, engineers, QA/QC personnel, and HSE teams.
- May require travel between project locations and extended working hours during testing, commissioning, or critical project milestones.
- Compliance with all company Health, Safety, Environment, and Quality (HSEQ) policies and site safety regulations.
