Job Description – Cost Control Engineer (Construction / Engineering)
A Cost Control Engineer is responsible for monitoring project costs, tracking expenses, analyzing financial performance, and ensuring projects are completed within the approved budget. The role involves coordinating with project teams to control expenditures, prepare cost reports, and support effective financial management.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor and control project costs throughout the project lifecycle.
- Prepare cost plans, budgets, forecasts, and financial reports.
- Track actual project expenses against approved budgets.
- Analyze cost variances and recommend corrective actions.
- Maintain cost control systems and update project cost databases.
- Review purchase orders, invoices, subcontractor costs, and material expenses.
- Coordinate with Project Managers, Quantity Surveyors, Procurement, and Finance teams.
- Monitor project progress and evaluate cost impact of changes and variations.
- Prepare monthly cost reports, cash flow forecasts, and management summaries.
- Support preparation and review of variation orders and claims.
- Analyze labor, material, and equipment costs.
- Ensure compliance with company cost control procedures and project requirements.
- Assist in identifying potential cost risks and savings opportunities.
- Maintain accurate cost records and project documentation.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Quantity Surveying, Finance, or a related field.
- Experience as a Cost Control Engineer in construction, engineering, or project-based industries.
- Knowledge of project cost management and financial reporting.
- Experience with large-scale construction or engineering projects is preferred.
- Familiarity with project management software such as Primavera P6, SAP, ERP systems, or cost control software is an advantage.
