Job Description: Senior Planning Engineer
Job Summary
The Senior Planning Engineer is responsible for developing, monitoring, and controlling project schedules to ensure timely completion of projects within approved timelines and contractual requirements. The role involves project planning, progress monitoring, resource management, delay analysis, reporting, and coordination with project teams, consultants, and stakeholders to support successful project delivery.
Key Responsibilities
Planning & Scheduling
- Develop detailed project schedules, baseline programs, and recovery plans using project planning tools.
- Prepare work breakdown structures (WBS), activity sequencing, logic links, durations, and resource requirements.
- Review contract documents, drawings, specifications, and project requirements to develop effective planning strategies.
- Monitor project progress against approved schedules and identify potential delays or risks.
- Update project schedules based on actual progress, changes, and approved variations.
- Prepare short-term, medium-term, and long-term look-ahead schedules.
- Coordinate with engineering, procurement, construction, and subcontractor teams to ensure timely execution of activities.
Project Controls & Reporting
- Track project performance using key performance indicators (KPIs) such as progress, productivity, cost, and schedule variance.
- Prepare weekly and monthly progress reports for management, clients, and consultants.
- Analyze project delays, identify root causes, and develop mitigation and recovery plans.
- Conduct schedule impact analysis and support extension of time (EOT) claims preparation.
- Monitor critical path activities and highlight risks affecting project completion.
- Prepare progress presentations and dashboards for project review meetings.
Coordination & Documentation
- Coordinate with project managers, site teams, consultants, and subcontractors regarding project status and planning requirements.
- Review subcontractor schedules and ensure alignment with the master project schedule.
- Assist in preparing project execution plans, resource plans, and productivity analysis.
- Maintain accurate planning records, project databases, and schedule documentation.
- Support change management, variation assessments, and delay analysis activities.
Project Improvement & Risk Management
- Identify opportunities to improve project performance and optimize resources.
- Provide planning support for decision-making and project strategy.
- Participate in risk assessments and develop schedule risk mitigation plans.
- Ensure compliance with company planning procedures and project control standards.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Project Management, or a related field.
- Minimum 7–10 years of experience in project planning and scheduling, preferably in construction, infrastructure, engineering, or industrial projects.
- Strong experience using planning software such as Primavera P6 and Microsoft Project.
- Good knowledge of project management principles, construction methodologies, and contract requirements.
- Experience in progress measurement, delay analysis, and reporting.
- Knowledge of scheduling techniques, resource loading, and project controls.
