Job Description: Contract Engineer
Job Summary
The Contract Engineer is responsible for managing contractual activities throughout the project lifecycle, ensuring compliance with contract terms, managing variations, claims, correspondence, and commercial documentation. The role supports project teams by providing contract administration, risk management, and commercial guidance to protect the company's interests and ensure successful project delivery.
Key Responsibilities
Contract Administration
- Review and analyze contract documents, specifications, drawings, and commercial terms.
- Ensure project activities comply with contractual requirements and obligations.
- Maintain proper contract records, correspondence, notices, and documentation.
- Monitor contract milestones, deliverables, and obligations of all parties.
- Support contract negotiations and provide contractual advice to project teams.
- Ensure timely submission of contractual notices, claims, and responses.
Claims & Variation Management
- Identify, evaluate, and prepare variation orders, claims, and extension of time (EOT) submissions.
- Analyze project changes, delays, disruptions, and additional cost impacts.
- Coordinate with planning, engineering, commercial, and project teams for claim preparation.
- Review subcontractor claims and supporting documents.
- Maintain variation and claims registers and monitor approval status.
Commercial & Project Support
- Assist in cost control, budget monitoring, and financial reporting activities.
- Review subcontract agreements, purchase orders, and commercial terms.
- Support preparation of payment applications, invoices, and contractual submissions.
- Monitor project risks and recommend mitigation strategies.
- Assist in resolving contractual disputes and commercial issues.
- Provide contractual input during project meetings with clients, consultants, and subcontractors.
Documentation & Compliance
- Prepare contractual letters, reports, and formal communications.
- Maintain accurate records of project correspondence and approvals.
- Ensure compliance with company procedures, contract requirements, and applicable regulations.
- Support internal and external audits by providing required contract documentation.
- Perform other contract-related duties assigned by management.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering, Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, Law, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Minimum 5–8 years of experience in contract administration within construction, engineering, infrastructure, or industrial projects.
- Strong knowledge of construction contracts, subcontract agreements, and commercial practices.
- Experience with contract types such as FIDIC, NEC, or similar international forms is preferred.
- Knowledge of claims preparation, variations, EOT submissions, and dispute resolution procedures.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and contract management systems.
