Senior Concrete Restoration Civil Engineer
Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced Senior Concrete Restoration Civil Engineer to lead the planning, inspection, design, and execution of concrete repair and restoration works. The role requires strong technical knowledge of reinforced concrete structures, concrete deterioration, repair methodologies, structural assessment, waterproofing, and rehabilitation works. The engineer will be responsible for ensuring restoration activities are completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with approved drawings, specifications, quality standards, and project schedules.
Key Responsibilities
Technical & Engineering
- Conduct detailed inspections and condition assessments of reinforced concrete structures.
- Identify causes of concrete deterioration, including cracking, spalling, corrosion, carbonation, water ingress, and other defects.
- Develop suitable repair and restoration methodologies based on site conditions and structural requirements.
- Review structural drawings, specifications, method statements, and repair details.
- Prepare or review repair proposals, technical reports, BOQs, and material requirements.
- Evaluate existing concrete, reinforcement condition, structural defects, and repair requirements.
- Recommend appropriate concrete repair, strengthening, waterproofing, and protective systems.
- Review repair materials such as repair mortars, grouts, bonding agents, corrosion inhibitors, epoxy systems, protective coatings, and related products.
- Coordinate with structural consultants, clients, contractors, and specialist subcontractors on technical matters.
- Provide technical solutions for complex concrete restoration and rehabilitation challenges.
Site Execution & Supervision
- Supervise and monitor concrete repair and restoration works at project sites.
- Ensure proper execution of concrete repair activities including:
- Concrete removal and surface preparation
- Reinforcement cleaning and treatment
- Rebar replacement or strengthening
- Crack injection and sealing
- Structural repairs and jacketing
- Micro-concrete and repair mortar applications
- Grouting and anchoring
- Waterproofing and protective coatings
- Verify that repair works are executed according to approved methodology and manufacturer recommendations.
- Monitor site productivity, manpower, equipment, and material utilization.
- Coordinate daily activities with site engineers, supervisors, subcontractors, and project management.
- Resolve technical issues arising during construction and restoration activities.
Quality Control & Inspection
- Establish and monitor quality-control procedures for restoration works.
- Inspect completed repair works and verify compliance with project specifications.
- Coordinate concrete testing, pull-off tests, rebound hammer tests, carbonation tests, chloride testing, and other relevant investigations where required.
- Review material submittals, technical data sheets, test certificates, and inspection reports.
- Raise and close inspection requests, NCRs, and quality observations.
- Maintain detailed records of inspections, tests, repairs, and corrective actions.
Project Management Support
- Assist the Project Manager in planning and scheduling restoration activities.
- Prepare work programs, progress reports, technical reports, and site documentation.
- Monitor project progress against approved schedules and milestones.
- Assist with quantity measurements, BOQ verification, variations, and material forecasting.
- Coordinate procurement requirements with the commercial and purchasing teams.
- Review subcontractor performance and ensure compliance with contractual and technical requirements.
- Attend project meetings and provide technical updates to management and clients.
Health, Safety & Environment
- Ensure all restoration works are carried out in accordance with approved HSE procedures.
- Identify site hazards associated with concrete cutting, breaking, scaffolding, chemicals, work at height, and structural repair activities.
- Ensure appropriate PPE, access systems, barricading, and safe working practices are implemented.
- Report and investigate safety incidents and ensure corrective actions are implemented.
- Promote a strong safety culture among site teams and subcontractors.
Candidate Profile
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering; Master's degree in Structural Engineering/Construction Management is an advantage.
- 8–12 years of relevant experience, with significant experience in concrete repair, structural rehabilitation, restoration, or construction.
- Strong practical experience with reinforced concrete structures and deterioration mechanisms.
- Experience in concrete repair and restoration projects involving commercial buildings, industrial structures, bridges, parking structures, or similar assets is preferred.
- Strong knowledge of concrete repair materials, structural strengthening systems, waterproofing, and protective coatings.
- Ability to interpret structural drawings, specifications, and technical documentation.
- Knowledge of relevant international standards and concrete repair practices.
- Professional engineering certification/licence is an advantage.
- Strong leadership, problem-solving, communication, and project coordination skills.
- Willingness to work at project sites and travel as required.
