Computer Technician — Job Description

A Computer Technician is responsible for installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing computer hardware, software, and related IT equipment. The role ensures that computers and technology systems operate efficiently and reliably.

Key Responsibilities

Install, configure, and maintain desktop computers, laptops, printers, and other IT equipment.
Diagnose and troubleshoot hardware and software problems.
Install and update operating systems, applications, drivers, and security software.
Perform computer repairs, upgrades, and preventive maintenance.
Set up and troubleshoot basic network connections, Wi-Fi, and peripherals.
Create and manage user accounts and provide technical support to employees.
Remove malware and resolve system performance and security issues.
Back up and restore data when required.
Maintain records of computer equipment, repairs, and maintenance activities.
Respond to technical support requests and resolve issues in a timely manner.
Provide users with basic guidance on computer systems and software.
Escalate complex technical issues to senior IT staff when necessary.

Required Skills

Good knowledge of computer hardware and software.
Experience troubleshooting Windows and other operating systems.
Basic knowledge of computer networking and TCP/IP.
Ability to install and configure software and hardware.
Knowledge of printers, scanners, routers, and other peripherals.
Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
Good communication and customer-service skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Education & Experience

Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, IT, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
Relevant technical certifications are an advantage.
Previous experience in computer repair or IT support is preferred.
Freshers with good technical knowledge may also be considered.
