Job Description – E&I QA/QC Engineer
Job Summary
We are seeking a qualified E&I QA/QC Engineer (Electrical & Instrumentation) to oversee and ensure the quality of electrical and instrumentation installation, inspection, testing, and commissioning activities. The role involves implementing project quality requirements, conducting inspections, reviewing technical documentation, coordinating with clients and contractors, and ensuring compliance with approved drawings, specifications, standards, and inspection and test plans.
Key Responsibilities
Quality Assurance & Quality Control
- Implement and maintain the project Quality Management System (QMS) for E&I activities.
- Ensure all electrical and instrumentation works comply with approved drawings, specifications, standards, and project requirements.
- Prepare, review, and implement Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs), checklists, and quality procedures.
- Conduct inspections of E&I materials, equipment, installations, and workmanship.
- Verify that materials and equipment received at site comply with approved specifications and material certificates.
- Monitor construction activities and identify quality issues at an early stage.
- Raise and follow up Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs) and ensure effective corrective actions are implemented.
- Maintain inspection records, quality dossiers, test reports, and other QA/QC documentation.
Electrical QA/QC
- Inspect installation of cables, cable trays, conduits, glands, terminations, junction boxes, panels, MCCs, switchgear, transformers, motors, and earthing systems.
- Verify cable routing, identification, termination, insulation, and continuity.
- Witness and review electrical testing activities, including insulation resistance, continuity, earth resistance, and functional testing.
- Ensure electrical installations comply with approved drawings and applicable standards.
- Inspect electrical equipment installation and alignment before testing and commissioning.
Instrumentation QA/QC
- Inspect installation of field instruments, tubing, impulse lines, instrument cables, junction boxes, control valves, and instrument panels.
- Verify instrument installation against approved drawings, P&IDs, hook-up drawings, and datasheets.
- Monitor instrument calibration and maintain calibration certificates.
- Witness loop checking, continuity testing, functional testing, and instrument calibration.
- Inspect control valve installation, testing, and functional performance.
- Verify proper tagging, identification, cable termination, tubing installation, and instrument accessibility.
Documentation & Coordination
- Review drawings, specifications, method statements, material submittals, and vendor documentation.
- Coordinate inspection activities with clients, consultants, third-party inspectors, contractors, and construction teams.
- Prepare Inspection Requests (IRs/WIRs) and coordinate inspections with the client/consultant.
- Review test reports, calibration certificates, material certificates, and equipment documentation.
- Maintain inspection logs, punch lists, quality records, and turnover documentation.
- Compile E&I quality dossiers and support project handover and final documentation.
- Participate in quality meetings, site inspections, audits, and progress reviews.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's/Diploma in Electrical Engineering, Instrumentation Engineering, Electronics & Instrumentation Engineering, or a related discipline.
- [0–X] years of experience in E&I QA/QC, preferably in EPC, oil & gas, petrochemical, power, industrial, or construction projects.
- Strong knowledge of electrical and instrumentation installation and testing.
- Good understanding of QA/QC procedures, ITPs, inspection processes, NCRs, and quality documentation.
- Ability to read and interpret SLDs, P&IDs, cable schedules, wiring diagrams, loop diagrams, hook-up drawings, and equipment datasheets.
- Knowledge of applicable electrical, instrumentation, and quality standards.
- Good communication and coordination skills.
- Ability to work effectively with construction, engineering, commissioning, and client teams.
Preferred Certifications
- ISO 9001 – Quality Management System knowledge/certification.
- QA/QC certification is an advantage.
- Relevant electrical/instrumentation inspection certifications.
- NDT certification, where applicable to the project.
- Familiarity with client-specific quality requirements and international standards.
