Job Title: Draftsman (CAD Technician)
Job Summary
We are looking for a skilled and detail-oriented Draftsman (CAD Technician) to prepare accurate technical drawings, layouts, and design documentation using AutoCAD and other relevant drafting software. The candidate will work closely with Design Engineers, Project Engineers, and Site Supervisors to prepare drawings according to project requirements, engineering specifications, and approved standards.
The ideal candidate should have good technical drawing knowledge, strong attention to detail, and the ability to complete drawings within project deadlines.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare 2D technical drawings and layouts using AutoCAD.
- Develop detailed engineering drawings based on sketches, specifications, and instructions from Design Engineers.
- Prepare shop drawings, installation drawings, fabrication drawings, and as-built drawings as required.
- Review architectural, structural, and MEP drawings to ensure proper coordination.
- Update drawings based on design revisions, site requirements, and consultant comments.
- Ensure drawings contain accurate dimensions, annotations, symbols, legends, and technical details.
- Maintain proper drawing numbering, revision control, and document filing systems.
- Coordinate with Design Engineers and project teams to clarify technical requirements.
- Assist in preparing material schedules, quantity take-offs, and BOQ-related drawings.
- Ensure drawings comply with company drafting standards and project specifications.
- Identify drawing discrepancies and report technical issues to the concerned engineer.
- Prepare drawings for client or consultant submission as instructed.
- Coordinate with site teams to incorporate approved site changes into as-built drawings.
- Maintain organized CAD files and ensure drawings are updated and accessible.
- Complete assigned drawings within agreed schedules and deadlines.
- Perform other drafting and technical documentation duties assigned by management.
Qualifications
- ITI, Diploma, or relevant technical qualification in Mechanical, Electrical, Civil Engineering, Drafting, or a related field.
- Certification or training in AutoCAD is preferred.
- Previous experience as a CAD Draftsman or CAD Technician is an advantage.
- Freshers with good AutoCAD skills and technical drawing knowledge may also apply.
Required Skills
- Proficiency in AutoCAD 2D drafting.
- Basic knowledge of engineering drawings, dimensions, scales, and drafting standards.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications.
- Knowledge of layers, blocks, annotations, plotting, and drawing layouts.
- Good attention to detail and accuracy.
- Basic knowledge of MS Office, especially Excel and Word.
- Good communication and coordination skills.
- Ability to manage multiple drawing assignments and meet deadlines.
- Willingness to learn new design software and technical procedures.
Preferred Experience
- Experience in mechanical, electrical, civil, MEP, or fire protection drafting.
- Knowledge of fire alarm layouts, sprinkler systems, fire fighting piping, hydrant systems, and fire pump room layouts, where applicable.
- Familiarity with shop drawings, installation drawings, and as-built documentation.
- Knowledge of Revit, BIM tools, or Navisworks is an advantage.
- Experience working with engineering consultants, contractors, or project execution teams.
