Job Summary
The Structural Supervisor is responsible for the direct field supervision of all structural steel and pipe support fabrication and installation activities. This hands-on role requires a strong leader who can ensure that work is executed safely, on schedule, and in strict compliance with quality standards and project drawings.
Key Responsibilities
- Daily Supervision: Directly supervise and coordinate the activities of structural fitters, welders, and riggers.
- Safety Compliance: Enforce all safety protocols and procedures, conducting daily toolbox talks and ensuring a safe work environment.
- Work Coordination: Plan and assign daily tasks to work crews based on the project schedule and priorities set by the construction manager.
- Quality Control: Perform initial inspections of structural fit-up, alignment, and dimensions before requesting formal QC inspection. Ensure all welding and fabrication meets the required standards.
- Progress Reporting: Monitor daily progress and report to the Area Superintendent or Construction Manager, highlighting any issues affecting productivity.
- Material & Tool Management: Coordinate with the store for the issuance of materials and ensure crews have the correct tools and equipment for their tasks.
- Problem Identification: Identify any discrepancies in drawings or issues with materials and report them promptly to the engineer.
Qualifications & Experience
- Education: Diploma in Mechanical Engineering.
- Experience: A minimum of 10 years of experience in structural and pipe support fabrication and erection, with at least 3-5 years in a supervisory capacity.
Skills & Competencies
- Extensive practical knowledge of structural steel fabrication and erection sequences.
- Ability to read and interpret structural fabrication and erection drawings, as well as pipe support details.
- Strong leadership and team management skills.
- Excellent understanding of site safety practices.
- Good communication skills.
