Commis Chef
Location: Yas Mall, Abu Dhabi
Department: Kitchen / Culinary
Reports to: Chef De Partie / Sous Chef
Job Overview:
The Commis Chef is an entry-level culinary position designed for learning and development. You will work under the guidance of senior chefs, assisting in food preparation and basic cooking tasks to support the smooth running of the kitchen across all sections.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist the Chef De Partie and other senior chefs in daily food preparation and mise-en-place.
- Perform basic cooking tasks under supervision.
- Prepare simple dishes (e.g., salads, appetizers) as skills develop.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization in all kitchen work areas, including fridges and storage.
- Wash, peel, chop, and portion ingredients as directed.
- Learn and adhere to all recipes, portion sizes, and presentation standards.
- Follow all safety procedures regarding equipment use and food handling.
- Receive and store deliveries, ensuring proper rotation (FIFO).
Qualifications & Skills:
- Culinary school certification or a strong desire to pursue a culinary career.
- Some prior experience in a kitchen environment is beneficial but not always required.
- Eagerness to learn, strong work ethic, and positive attitude.
- Ability to follow instructions and work as part of a team.
- Basic knowledge of food hygiene practices.
- Physical stamina to work in a hot, fast-paced environment for long hours.
