Job Title: Safety Officer
Job Summary
The Safety Officer is responsible for ensuring a safe and healthy work environment by implementing safety policies, monitoring compliance, and promoting a culture of safety. This role involves identifying hazards, conducting inspections, and ensuring adherence to legal and organizational safety standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and enforce health and safety policies and procedures
- Conduct regular site inspections and risk assessments
- Identify hazards and recommend corrective actions
- Ensure compliance with safety regulations and standards such as Occupational Safety and Health Administration guidelines or local laws
- Provide safety training and awareness programs for employees
- Investigate accidents, incidents, and near-misses
- Prepare and maintain safety reports and documentation
- Monitor the use of personal protective equipment (PPE)
- Coordinate emergency response plans and drills
- Promote a safety-first culture across the organization
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Engineering, or related field
- Proven experience as a Safety Officer or similar role
- Strong knowledge of safety regulations and standards
- Familiarity with systems like ISO 45001
- Excellent observation and problem-solving skills
- Strong communication and training abilities
- Attention to detail and risk awareness
Preferred Qualifications
- Safety certifications (e.g., NEBOSH, IOSH)
- Experience in industries like construction, manufacturing, or oil & gas
- First aid and emergency response training
Work Environment
- May involve working on construction sites, factories, or industrial facilities
- Requires regular field inspections and site visits
- May involve travel and flexible working hours
