Job Summary
A Lead Project Control Engineer is responsible for overseeing project planning, scheduling, cost control, progress measurement, risk management, and reporting across engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) projects. The role ensures projects are delivered within approved budgets, timelines, and scope while providing accurate forecasting and performance analysis to senior management.
Key Responsibilities
Project Planning & Scheduling
- Develop and maintain detailed project schedules using project management tools.
- Establish Work Breakdown Structures (WBS) and activity sequencing.
- Monitor critical path activities and identify schedule risks.
- Coordinate baseline schedule development and updates.
Cost Control & Budget Management
- Prepare and monitor project budgets and cost forecasts.
- Track actual costs against approved budgets.
- Analyze cost variances and implement corrective actions.
- Support cash flow forecasting and cost performance reporting.
Progress Measurement & Reporting
- Define progress measurement systems (PMS) for engineering, procurement, and construction.
- Collect and analyze project progress data.
- Prepare weekly, monthly, and milestone progress reports.
- Present project performance dashboards to management.
Risk Management
- Identify project risks related to cost, schedule, and resources.
- Maintain risk registers and mitigation plans.
- Monitor risk exposure throughout the project lifecycle.
- Support decision-making with risk impact analysis.
Change Control Management
- Evaluate and process change requests (variations and claims).
- Assess cost and schedule impact of changes.
- Maintain change logs and ensure proper approvals.
- Coordinate with contracts and commercial teams.
Project Coordination
- Work closely with engineering, procurement, construction, and HSE teams.
- Ensure alignment between project execution and baseline plans.
- Support project managers in decision-making and strategy.
- Coordinate with clients, consultants, and contractors.
Forecasting & Performance Analysis
- Prepare project completion forecasts (EAC – Estimate at Completion).
- Analyze schedule and cost performance indices (SPI, CPI).
- Provide trend analysis and predictive reporting.
- Recommend corrective actions to maintain project objectives.
Documentation & Compliance
- Maintain project control documentation and records.
- Ensure compliance with contractual and reporting requirements.
- Support audits and project reviews.
- Maintain updated project control systems and databases.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Quantity Surveying, or related field.
- 7–15+ years of experience in project controls within EPC, construction, oil & gas, or infrastructure projects.
- Certification in Primavera P6, PMP, or AACE (advantageous).
