Job Summary
A Facilities Engineer is responsible for the operation, maintenance, safety, and efficiency of building systems and infrastructure. This includes HVAC systems, electrical systems, plumbing, fire protection, civil maintenance, and general facility upkeep. The role ensures that facilities are safe, functional, cost-effective, and compliant with health, safety, and environmental standards.
Key Responsibilities
Facilities Operations & Maintenance
- Oversee daily operation and maintenance of building systems and utilities.
- Manage HVAC, electrical, plumbing, lighting, elevators, and fire protection systems.
- Ensure preventive and corrective maintenance of all facility equipment.
- Coordinate repairs, upgrades, and replacements of systems and infrastructure.
Building Systems Management
- Monitor performance of critical building systems (HVAC, chillers, generators, UPS).
- Optimize energy consumption and improve system efficiency.
- Conduct regular inspections of facilities and infrastructure.
- Ensure proper functioning of building automation systems (BAS/BMS).
Maintenance Planning
- Develop preventive maintenance schedules and maintenance procedures.
- Manage maintenance contractors and service providers.
- Track maintenance work orders and ensure timely completion.
- Maintain maintenance logs and equipment history records.
Health, Safety & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with safety regulations, building codes, and environmental standards.
- Conduct safety inspections and risk assessments.
- Support fire safety drills and emergency preparedness plans.
- Ensure proper implementation of HSE policies within the facility.
Project & Contractor Management
- Supervise facility improvement projects and renovations.
- Coordinate with contractors, vendors, and consultants.
- Review technical proposals and ensure quality of workmanship.
- Monitor project timelines and budgets.
Energy & Cost Management
- Monitor utility consumption (electricity, water, fuel, gas).
- Implement energy-saving initiatives and sustainability programs.
- Identify cost-saving opportunities in facility operations.
- Prepare reports on energy efficiency and operational costs.
Documentation & Reporting
- Maintain records of maintenance activities, inspections, and repairs.
- Prepare reports on facility performance and equipment status.
- Maintain asset registers and inventory of facility equipment.
- Document compliance and audit records.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or Facilities Management.
- 3–10+ years of experience in facilities maintenance or building services engineering.
- Experience in commercial buildings, hospitals, industrial plants, or large infrastructure facilities is preferred.
