Job Summary
A Telecommunications Engineer is responsible for designing, implementing, maintaining, and optimizing communication systems and networks. This includes voice, data, fiber optic, wireless, satellite, and IP-based communication systems. The role ensures reliable, secure, and efficient communication infrastructure for organizations across industries such as telecom, oil & gas, construction, utilities, IT, and government projects.
Key Responsibilities
Network & Communication Design
- Design and implement telecommunication systems including voice, data, and video networks.
- Develop network architecture for LAN, WAN, MAN, and wireless systems.
- Design fiber optic and structured cabling systems.
- Plan network capacity, coverage, and performance optimization.
Installation & Configuration
- Install, configure, and commission telecom equipment such as routers, switches, PBX systems, and servers.
- Configure wireless communication systems (Wi-Fi, microwave, radio links).
- Support setup of VoIP and unified communication systems.
- Ensure proper integration of telecom systems with IT infrastructure.
Operation & Maintenance
- Monitor network performance and ensure system uptime.
- Troubleshoot communication issues and resolve network faults.
- Perform preventive and corrective maintenance of telecom systems.
- Maintain backup systems and disaster recovery solutions.
Fiber Optic & Structured Cabling
- Design and supervise installation of fiber optic networks.
- Conduct fiber splicing, testing, and certification.
- Manage structured cabling systems for data centers and buildings.
- Ensure compliance with cabling standards and best practices.
Wireless & Satellite Communication
- Manage wireless communication systems such as microwave links and RF networks.
- Support satellite communication systems where applicable.
- Optimize signal strength, coverage, and bandwidth usage.
- Conduct site surveys and frequency planning.
Security & Network Protection
- Implement network security measures including firewalls and encryption.
- Monitor for network vulnerabilities and threats.
- Ensure secure communication protocols and access control.
- Support cybersecurity initiatives in telecom systems.
Project Support & Coordination
- Work with civil, electrical, and IT teams for infrastructure deployment.
- Review vendor proposals and technical specifications.
- Support project commissioning and handover activities.
- Coordinate with service providers and telecom operators.
Documentation & Reporting
- Prepare technical documentation, network diagrams, and reports.
- Maintain records of network configurations and changes.
- Document maintenance activities and incident reports.
- Provide performance and status reports to management.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Telecommunications Engineering, Electronics & Communication Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field.
- 3–10+ years of experience in telecom or network engineering roles.
- Experience in telecom operators, EPC projects, IT infrastructure, or industrial environments preferred.
