Job Title: Instrumentation Engineer

Reports To: Lead Instrumentation Engineer / Engineering Manager / Project Manager
Job Summary
An Instrumentation Engineer is responsible for the design, installation, calibration, testing, commissioning, and maintenance of instrumentation and control systems used in industrial facilities. The role ensures accurate measurement, monitoring, and control of process parameters while maintaining safety, reliability, and compliance with industry standards.
Key Responsibilities
Engineering Design
- Design instrumentation and control systems for industrial and process plants.
- Prepare instrument datasheets, specifications, hook-up drawings, and loop diagrams.
- Develop instrument indexes, cable schedules, and I/O lists.
- Review Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs) and Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs).
- Select and specify field instruments such as transmitters, control valves, analyzers, and sensors.
Control Systems Engineering
- Support the design and integration of:
- DCS
- PLC
- SCADA
- ESD
- F&G System
- Participate in control philosophy and cause-and-effect reviews.
- Assist with automation and process control improvements.
Installation & Commissioning
- Supervise installation of instruments, junction boxes, panels, and control systems.
- Perform loop checking, calibration, functional testing, and commissioning activities.
- Verify instrument installation against approved drawings and specifications.
- Support plant startup and performance testing.
Maintenance & Troubleshooting
- Diagnose and resolve instrumentation and control system issues.
- Develop preventive and corrective maintenance programs.
- Analyze equipment failures and recommend improvements.
- Support plant reliability and operational efficiency initiatives.
Quality, Safety & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with project specifications and industry standards.
- Participate in HAZOP, risk assessments, and safety reviews.
- Support QA/QC inspections and documentation reviews.
- Ensure proper calibration and certification of instruments.
Documentation & Reporting
- Prepare engineering calculations and technical reports.
- Maintain instrument databases and calibration records.
- Review vendor documentation and technical submissions.
- Update as-built drawings and project documentation.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Instrumentation Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Electrical & Instrumentation Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Typically 3–10+ years of experience in instrumentation and control engineering.
- Experience in oil & gas, petrochemical, power generation, water treatment, manufacturing, or EPC projects is preferred.
