Job Summary
An Electrical Design Engineer is responsible for designing, developing, testing, and improving electrical systems, equipment, and components for industrial, commercial, or infrastructure projects. The role involves preparing electrical drawings, calculations, specifications, and ensuring compliance with industry standards, safety regulations, and project requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Design electrical systems, circuits, and equipment based on project requirements.
- Prepare electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, single-line diagrams (SLD), and layout drawings.
- Perform electrical load calculations, cable sizing, voltage drop calculations, and protection coordination studies.
- Develop technical specifications, bill of materials (BOM), and engineering documentation.
- Select appropriate electrical components such as transformers, switchgear, cables, motors, and control panels.
- Coordinate with mechanical, civil, instrumentation, and project teams during design and execution phases.
- Review and approve vendor drawings and technical submissions.
- Ensure designs comply with applicable electrical codes, standards, and safety regulations.
- Support installation, testing, commissioning, and troubleshooting activities.
- Conduct design reviews and implement improvements to optimize performance and cost.
- Prepare project reports and maintain engineering records.
Required Skills
- Strong knowledge of electrical engineering principles and power distribution systems.
- Proficiency in electrical design software such as AutoCAD, EPLAN, ETAP, Dialux, or similar tools.
- Understanding of electrical standards and codes (IEC, IEEE, NEC, IS Standards, etc.).
- Knowledge of LV/MV systems, switchgear, transformers, and control systems.
- Ability to perform electrical calculations and technical analysis.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Good communication and teamwork abilities.
- Project coordination and documentation skills.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
- Professional certifications are an added advantage.
Experience
- 0–2 years: Junior Electrical Design Engineer
- 2–5 years: Electrical Design Engineer
- 5+ years: Senior Electrical Design Engineer
