Job Summary
The Boom Lift Operator is responsible for safely operating boom lift equipment to provide elevated access for construction, maintenance, installation, inspection, and repair activities. The operator ensures compliance with safety regulations, conducts pre-operation inspections, and supports project teams in completing work efficiently and safely at height.
Key Responsibilities
Equipment Operation
- Operate boom lifts, articulating boom lifts, and telescopic boom lifts safely and efficiently.
- Position equipment to provide secure access to elevated work areas.
- Maneuver equipment in confined spaces and around obstacles while maintaining site safety.
- Follow manufacturer operating guidelines and company procedures.
Safety Compliance
- Conduct pre-start and post-operation inspections of equipment.
- Ensure proper use of fall protection and personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Identify workplace hazards and implement appropriate safety measures.
- Comply with all site safety regulations and permit-to-work requirements.
- Stop operations immediately if unsafe conditions are identified.
Equipment Inspection & Maintenance
- Perform daily equipment checks and complete inspection reports.
- Monitor fuel, hydraulic fluid, battery, and operational systems.
- Report defects, malfunctions, or maintenance requirements promptly.
- Keep equipment clean and in good working condition.
Site Support
- Assist construction, maintenance, electrical, mechanical, and installation teams in accessing elevated work areas.
- Coordinate movements with supervisors, signalers, and ground personnel.
- Support loading, unloading, and mobilization of boom lift equipment when required.
Documentation
- Maintain equipment logbooks and operational records.
- Complete daily safety checklists and inspection forms.
- Report incidents, near misses, and equipment damage according to company procedures.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Valid Boom Lift / Mobile Elevating Work Platform (MEWP) Operator Certification.
- Valid driver's license (if required by local regulations).
Experience
- Minimum 2–5 years of experience operating boom lifts in construction, industrial, oil & gas, manufacturing, or maintenance environments.
- Experience working at heights and in active construction sites.
- Familiarity with different types of aerial work platforms is preferred.
Technical Skills
- Proficiency in operating articulating and telescopic boom lifts.
- Knowledge of load capacities, operating limits, and stability requirements.
- Ability to perform routine equipment inspections.
- Understanding of site safety procedures and hazard identification.
