Job Summary
The MEP Planning Engineer is responsible for developing, monitoring, and controlling project schedules for Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing (MEP) works. The role involves preparing detailed project plans, tracking progress, analyzing delays, forecasting resource requirements, and supporting project management in achieving project objectives within the approved timeline and budget.
Key Responsibilities
Project Planning & Scheduling
- Develop detailed project schedules for MEP activities using project planning software.
- Prepare baseline programs, look-ahead schedules, and recovery plans.
- Define project milestones, critical paths, and work breakdown structures (WBS).
- Coordinate with project teams to establish realistic timelines and resource requirements.
- Ensure alignment of MEP schedules with overall project master schedules.
Progress Monitoring & Control
- Track and monitor project progress against approved schedules.
- Update project schedules regularly and analyze schedule performance.
- Identify delays, bottlenecks, and potential risks affecting project completion.
- Recommend corrective actions and recovery strategies to maintain project timelines.
- Prepare progress measurement reports and schedule updates.
Resource Planning
- Analyze manpower, material, equipment, and subcontractor requirements.
- Monitor resource utilization and productivity levels.
- Forecast future resource needs and support workforce planning.
- Coordinate with procurement and construction teams to ensure resource availability.
Project Controls & Reporting
- Prepare weekly and monthly planning reports, dashboards, and performance analyses.
- Generate S-curves, histograms, earned value reports, and progress tracking documents.
- Monitor key project performance indicators (KPIs).
- Assist in evaluating extension of time (EOT) claims and delay analyses.
- Support project cost control through schedule-based forecasting.
Coordination & Communication
- Coordinate with project managers, construction managers, engineers, subcontractors, and consultants.
- Attend project progress meetings and provide schedule updates.
- Ensure effective communication of project timelines and milestones.
- Support decision-making through planning and project control data.
Documentation & Compliance
- Maintain planning records, schedule revisions, and project control documentation.
- Ensure compliance with project requirements, contract specifications, and company procedures.
- Support project audits and management reviews.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Construction Engineering, Project Management, or a related field.
- 3–8 years of experience in planning and scheduling MEP or construction projects.
- Strong understanding of MEP systems, construction sequencing, and project execution.
- Proficiency in planning and scheduling software such as Primavera P6 and Microsoft Project.
- Ability to analyze project data and prepare detailed reports.
- Strong knowledge of project control methodologies and scheduling techniques.
Preferred Qualifications
- PMP (Project Management Professional) certification or equivalent.
- Primavera P6 Professional certification.
- Experience with large-scale commercial, residential, industrial, healthcare, airport, or infrastructure projects.
- Knowledge of BIM-based planning and 4D scheduling.
- Familiarity with contract management and claims analysis.
