Job Summary
The Site Engineer – Mechanical / Electrical is responsible for supervising and coordinating site activities related to mechanical or electrical installations. The role ensures that work is executed according to approved drawings, project specifications, quality standards, safety requirements, and project schedules. The Site Engineer acts as a key link between the project team, subcontractors, consultants, and clients to ensure successful project execution.
Key Responsibilities
Site Supervision & Execution
- Supervise daily mechanical or electrical installation activities on-site.
- Ensure work is carried out in accordance with approved drawings, specifications, method statements, and project requirements.
- Monitor work progress and ensure adherence to project schedules and milestones.
- Coordinate site activities with subcontractors, suppliers, and other disciplines.
- Resolve site-related technical issues and provide engineering support to construction teams.
Installation & Construction Management
Mechanical Site Engineer
- Supervise installation of HVAC systems, plumbing systems, firefighting systems, chilled water piping, ductwork, pumps, and related mechanical equipment.
- Verify alignment, testing, and commissioning readiness of mechanical systems.
Electrical Site Engineer
- Supervise installation of power distribution systems, transformers, switchgear, cable trays, conduits, lighting systems, fire alarm systems, earthing systems, and ELV systems.
- Ensure proper cable routing, termination, testing, and commissioning readiness.
Quality Control
- Ensure installations comply with approved shop drawings, specifications, and quality standards.
- Conduct site inspections and prepare inspection requests (IRs).
- Coordinate with QA/QC personnel for inspections and testing activities.
- Monitor workmanship quality and minimize rework.
- Ensure timely rectification of defects and non-conformities.
Health, Safety & Environment (HSE)
- Enforce site safety procedures and regulations.
- Conduct toolbox talks and ensure workers follow safe work practices.
- Identify potential hazards and report safety concerns.
- Support implementation of project HSE requirements.
Material & Resource Management
- Verify material availability and coordinate delivery requirements.
- Monitor material usage and prevent wastage.
- Prepare material requests and coordinate with procurement teams.
- Ensure proper storage and handling of materials and equipment.
Documentation & Reporting
- Maintain daily site reports and progress records.
- Review and update as-built drawings as required.
- Prepare work progress updates and resource reports.
- Track RFIs (Requests for Information), site instructions, and technical clarifications.
- Support project documentation and handover activities.
Coordination & Communication
- Coordinate with civil, architectural, structural, and MEP teams.
- Attend site meetings and provide progress updates.
- Liaise with consultants, clients, subcontractors, and suppliers.
- Support testing, commissioning, and project handover activities.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline.
- 2–7 years of experience in mechanical or electrical site engineering within construction or MEP projects.
- Knowledge of MEP systems, installation methods, and construction practices.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications.
- Familiarity with relevant engineering codes and standards.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and AutoCAD.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in commercial, residential, industrial, healthcare, hospitality, or infrastructure projects.
- Knowledge of BIM and construction management software.
- Health and safety training or certifications.
- Familiarity with testing and commissioning procedures.
