Job Summary
The Plumbing Technician is responsible for installing, maintaining, inspecting, troubleshooting, and repairing plumbing systems, water supply networks, drainage systems, and related equipment to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operation. The role involves performing preventive and corrective maintenance, responding to plumbing emergencies, supporting facility operations, and ensuring compliance with health, safety, and environmental standards.
Key Responsibilities
Plumbing Maintenance and Operations
- Perform preventive, corrective, and reactive maintenance on plumbing systems and equipment.
- Install, repair, and maintain water supply systems, drainage systems, sanitary fixtures, pumps, valves, pipes, and plumbing equipment.
- Inspect plumbing systems to identify leaks, blockages, corrosion, and potential failures.
- Diagnose plumbing faults and carry out appropriate repairs.
- Repair or replace defective components, including pipes, valves, faucets, pumps, fixtures, and fittings.
- Maintain domestic water systems, hot water systems, drainage networks, and related building services.
- Ensure plumbing systems operate efficiently and comply with required standards.
Installation and Repair Works
- Carry out plumbing installations according to drawings, specifications, and approved procedures.
- Install sanitary fixtures, water heaters, pumps, drainage connections, and associated equipment.
- Perform pipework modifications, replacements, and extensions as required.
- Conduct testing and commissioning of plumbing installations.
- Read and interpret plumbing drawings, layouts, and technical manuals.
- Support renovation, refurbishment, and improvement projects.
Preventive Maintenance and Reporting
- Follow planned preventive maintenance (PPM) schedules and complete assigned work orders.
- Inspect plumbing equipment and systems regularly to prevent failures.
- Maintain accurate records of inspections, repairs, materials used, and completed work.
- Report recurring issues, equipment defects, and improvement opportunities to supervisors.
- Maintain tools, equipment, and work areas in a clean and safe condition.
- Monitor plumbing spare parts and consumable requirements.
Health, Safety, and Environmental Compliance
- Follow safe working practices, permit-to-work procedures, and site safety requirements.
- Use appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) during all tasks.
- Ensure proper handling and disposal of waste materials and chemicals.
- Identify hazards, leaks, and unsafe conditions and report them promptly.
- Support health, safety, and environmental inspections and audits.
- Maintain hygiene standards when working on water supply and drainage systems.
Customer and Team Support
- Respond promptly to plumbing breakdowns, leaks, and service requests.
- Coordinate with supervisors, engineers, contractors, and other maintenance teams.
- Provide updates on job progress and completed repairs.
- Maintain professional communication with clients, tenants, and building occupants.
- Assist other maintenance teams when required.
Qualifications
- Diploma, Technical Certificate, or Vocational qualification in Plumbing, Mechanical Engineering, Building Services, or a related field.
- Valid plumbing trade certification or license (where required).
- Training in health and safety, water systems, or facilities maintenance is an advantage.
Experience
- Minimum of 2–5 years of experience in plumbing maintenance, building services, or facility operations.
- Experience with commercial buildings, hospitals, hotels, residential properties, industrial facilities, or facilities management projects is preferred.

- Strong knowledge of plumbing systems, water supply, drainage, and sanitary installations.
- Ability to diagnose leaks, blockages, and plumbing system faults.

- Exposure to water systems, chemicals, and maintenance equipment requires adherence to safety procedures and use of PPE.
