Job Summary
The Air Conditioning (A/C) Technician is responsible for installing, inspecting, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing air conditioning, ventilation, and refrigeration systems to ensure their safe, efficient, and reliable operation. The role requires compliance with safety standards, manufacturer specifications, and applicable regulations while delivering high-quality service.
Key Responsibilities
- Install, test, and commission air conditioning, ventilation, and refrigeration systems.
- Perform routine preventive maintenance on HVAC equipment.
- Inspect equipment to identify faults, wear, or potential failures.
- Diagnose and repair electrical, mechanical, and refrigeration system faults.
- Recharge refrigerants and check for leaks in accordance with environmental regulations.
- Replace or repair defective components such as compressors, motors, fans, thermostats, filters, coils, and electrical controls.
- Read and interpret technical drawings, wiring diagrams, and equipment manuals.
- Monitor system performance and recommend improvements to enhance efficiency and reliability.
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance, repairs, inspections, and parts used.
- Ensure proper handling, storage, and disposal of refrigerants and other hazardous materials.
- Comply with occupational health, safety, and environmental requirements, including the use of appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Respond promptly to emergency maintenance requests and equipment breakdowns.
- Coordinate with supervisors, contractors, and other maintenance personnel to complete work efficiently.
- Maintain tools, equipment, and work areas in a clean and safe condition.
Qualifications
- Diploma, Certificate, or Technical/Vocational qualification in Air Conditioning, Refrigeration, HVAC, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
- Valid HVAC or refrigeration certification/licence, where required by local regulations.
- Refrigerant handling certification is an advantage.
Required Skills
- Strong knowledge of HVAC systems, refrigeration cycles, and ventilation equipment.
- Ability to diagnose and repair electrical and mechanical faults.
- Proficiency in reading technical drawings and wiring diagrams.
- Knowledge of refrigerants, recovery procedures, and environmental regulations.
- Good troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to use HVAC testing and diagnostic tools.
- Strong communication and customer service skills.
- Good organizational and time management abilities.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Preferred Experience
- 2–5 years of experience in the installation, maintenance, and repair of residential, commercial, or industrial HVAC systems.
- Experience with central air conditioning systems, chillers, VRF/VRV systems, split units, package units, and refrigeration equipment is an advantage.

Working Conditions
- Work may be performed indoors and outdoors in residential, commercial, or industrial environments.
- Frequent lifting, climbing, bending, and working in confined spaces or at heights.
- Exposure to varying temperatures, electrical systems, and refrigerants.
- May require after-hours, weekend, or emergency call-out work.
- Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is required at all times where applicable.
