Job Summary
The Civil Technician (Painting, Tiling & Carpentry) is responsible for carrying out civil maintenance, repair, renovation, and finishing works within facilities and buildings. The role includes performing painting, tiling, carpentry, and general civil maintenance activities to ensure buildings, interiors, and external areas are maintained to a high standard of quality, safety, and appearance. The technician must complete assigned tasks efficiently while complying with organizational procedures, safety requirements, and service standards.
Key Responsibilities
Civil Maintenance Works
- Perform routine and corrective civil maintenance activities within buildings and facilities.
- Inspect walls, ceilings, floors, doors, windows, and other building elements to identify defects and repair requirements.
- Carry out repair works related to cracks, plastering, concrete damage, and building finishes.
- Support refurbishment, renovation, and improvement projects.
- Ensure completed works meet quality standards and client requirements.
Painting Works
- Perform internal and external painting works, including surface preparation, priming, and finishing.
- Prepare surfaces by cleaning, sanding, filling cracks, and applying appropriate treatments.
- Apply paints, coatings, and finishes using brushes, rollers, and spray equipment.
- Match colors and finishes according to specifications.
- Maintain proper handling, storage, and disposal of paints, solvents, and related materials.
- Ensure painting works are completed neatly and professionally.
Tiling Works
- Install, repair, and replace floor and wall tiles.
- Prepare surfaces, apply adhesives, and perform grouting and finishing works.
- Repair damaged tiles and restore affected areas.
- Ensure proper alignment, leveling, and finishing of tiled surfaces.
- Perform waterproofing-related preparation works where required.
- Maintain tools and equipment used for tiling activities.
Carpentry Works
- Perform carpentry repairs and installation works for doors, windows, furniture, cabinets, and wooden structures.
- Repair and replace damaged wooden components and fittings.
- Install shelves, partitions, frames, and other carpentry items.
- Measure, cut, assemble, and finish wood materials according to requirements.
- Operate carpentry tools and equipment safely.
- Maintain quality workmanship and accurate measurements.
Preventive Maintenance and Reporting
- Complete assigned work orders within agreed timelines.
- Conduct inspections and report defects, material requirements, and additional repair needs.
- Maintain records of completed works, materials used, and maintenance activities.
- Ensure tools, equipment, and work areas are maintained properly.
- Support emergency repair works when required.
Health, Safety, and Compliance
- Follow health, safety, and environmental procedures at all times.
- Use appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
- Follow safe working practices when using tools, chemicals, ladders, and equipment.
- Maintain proper housekeeping at work locations.
- Report hazards, incidents, and unsafe conditions immediately.
- Comply with permit-to-work and site safety requirements.
Team and Customer Support
- Coordinate with supervisors, engineers, technicians, and contractors.
- Support other maintenance teams when required.
- Communicate professionally with clients, tenants, and building occupants.
- Ensure minimal disruption during maintenance activities.
Qualifications
- Technical certificate, vocational qualification, or trade certification in Civil Works, Painting, Carpentry, Building Maintenance, or a related field.
- Additional training in health and safety or facilities maintenance is an advantage.
Experience
- Minimum of 2–5 years of experience in civil maintenance, building finishing works, or facilities maintenance.
- Practical experience in painting, tiling, carpentry, and general repair works.
- Experience in commercial buildings, residential properties, hotels, hospitals, or industrial facilities is preferred.

- Good knowledge of painting techniques, tiling methods, and carpentry works.
- Ability to read basic drawings and measurements.
- Skilled in using hand tools and power tools safely.

Working Conditions

- May require shift work, emergency repairs, weekends, or public holiday support.
- Appropriate PPE must be worn during all activities.
