Job Summary
The Electrical Technician is responsible for installing, maintaining, inspecting, troubleshooting, and repairing electrical systems, equipment, and building services to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operation. The role involves carrying out preventive and corrective maintenance, diagnosing electrical faults, supporting electrical projects, and ensuring compliance with safety regulations, technical standards, and organizational procedures.
Key Responsibilities
Electrical Maintenance and Operations
- Perform preventive, corrective, and reactive maintenance on electrical systems and equipment.
- Install, test, repair, and maintain electrical wiring, circuits, panels, lighting systems, and electrical equipment.
- Inspect electrical installations to identify faults, defects, and potential safety hazards.
- Troubleshoot electrical problems using appropriate testing equipment and technical documentation.
- Repair or replace faulty components, including switches, sockets, breakers, contactors, relays, motors, and control devices.
- Maintain and monitor electrical distribution systems, generators, UPS systems, and related equipment.
- Ensure electrical systems operate efficiently and meet required performance standards.
Installation and Testing
- Carry out electrical installations according to approved drawings, specifications, and safety requirements.
- Conduct electrical testing, inspections, and commissioning activities.
- Read and interpret electrical drawings, schematics, and equipment manuals.
- Assist with electrical modifications, upgrades, and improvement projects.
- Ensure all work complies with applicable electrical codes and standards.
Preventive Maintenance and Reporting
- Follow scheduled preventive maintenance plans and complete assigned work orders.
- Record maintenance activities, inspections, faults, repairs, and materials used.
- Report equipment issues, recurring faults, and improvement opportunities to supervisors.
- Maintain tools, equipment, and work areas in good condition.
- Support inventory control of electrical spare parts and consumables.
Health, Safety, and Compliance
- Follow electrical safety procedures, permit-to-work systems, and safe working practices.
- Use appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) during all maintenance activities.
- Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental requirements.
- Identify hazards and report unsafe conditions immediately.
- Support safety inspections, audits, and emergency response activities.
Customer and Team Support
- Respond promptly to maintenance requests and breakdown calls.
- Coordinate with supervisors, engineers, contractors, and other maintenance teams.
- Provide technical support and updates regarding completed work.
- Maintain professional communication with clients and building occupants.
Qualifications
- Diploma, Technical Certificate, or Vocational qualification in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Installation, or a related field.
- Valid electrical trade certification or license (where applicable).
- Training in safety standards, electrical systems, or facilities maintenance is an advantage.
Experience
- Minimum of 2–5 years of experience in electrical maintenance, building services, or industrial electrical systems.
- Experience with commercial buildings, facilities management, manufacturing, hotels, hospitals, or industrial sites is preferred.
Required Skills
- Strong knowledge of electrical systems, wiring, and control circuits.
- Ability to diagnose electrical faults and perform repairs.
- Knowledge of electrical safety standards and regulations.
- Ability to read electrical drawings and schematics.
- Experience using electrical testing tools such as multimeters, insulation testers, and clamp meters.
- Good problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.

Working Conditions
- Site-based role involving electrical rooms, plant rooms, and operational areas.

- Exposure to electrical systems and equipment requires strict adherence to safety procedures and use of PPE.
