Job Title: Abrasive Blaster
Job Description:
An Abrasive Blaster is responsible for preparing metal, steel structures, pipelines, tanks, and other surfaces by using abrasive blasting equipment to remove rust, paint, corrosion, scale, and surface contaminants. The role ensures surfaces are properly prepared according to project specifications and industry standards before painting, coating, or other finishing processes.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform abrasive blasting operations using sandblasting, grit blasting, shot blasting, or other approved methods.
- Prepare surfaces by removing rust, old coatings, dirt, oil, and other contaminants.
- Operate and maintain blasting equipment, compressors, hoses, nozzles, and related tools.
- Inspect blasted surfaces to ensure required cleanliness and surface profile standards are achieved.
- Follow project specifications, coating procedures, and quality requirements.
- Select appropriate abrasive materials and blasting techniques based on surface conditions.
- Set up blasting areas, including protective coverings, ventilation, and safety barriers.
- Perform equipment checks and report faults or maintenance requirements.
- Follow health, safety, and environmental procedures, including proper handling of abrasive materials.
- Wear and maintain personal protective equipment (PPE), including blasting suits, helmets, and respirators.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area.
- Coordinate with painters, coating supervisors, and site teams to ensure smooth workflow.
- Complete daily work records and report progress to supervisors.
Qualifications:
- High school certificate or equivalent preferred.
- Previous experience as an Abrasive Blaster, Sand Blaster, or Surface Preparation Technician.
- Experience in oil & gas, shipyard, construction, or industrial coating projects is an advantage.
- Knowledge of blasting techniques, surface preparation standards, and safety procedures.
