Job Summary
The Occupational Therapist is responsible for assessing, planning, and delivering therapeutic interventions that help individuals develop, recover, or maintain the skills needed for daily living, work, and independent functioning. The therapist works with patients of all ages who have physical, developmental, neurological, psychological, or cognitive conditions, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to promote optimal health, independence, and quality of life.
Key Responsibilities
- Assess patients' physical, cognitive, emotional, and functional abilities to determine occupational therapy needs.
- Develop individualized treatment plans based on assessment findings and patient goals.
- Deliver evidence-based occupational therapy interventions to improve daily living, self-care, work, and leisure skills.
- Recommend and train patients in the use of adaptive equipment, assistive technology, and environmental modifications.
- Monitor patient progress and adjust treatment plans as required.
- Educate patients, families, and caregivers on therapeutic techniques and home management strategies.
- Collaborate with physicians, physiotherapists, speech and language therapists, nurses, psychologists, social workers, and other healthcare professionals.
- Maintain accurate clinical documentation, treatment records, and progress reports.
- Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings and discharge planning.
- Promote health, injury prevention, and functional independence through patient education and community outreach.
- Ensure compliance with professional standards, ethical guidelines, and regulatory requirements.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives, clinical audits, and continuing professional development activities.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited institution.
- Valid professional registration or licensure as required by the relevant country or regulatory authority.
- Additional certifications in specialized practice areas (e.g., hand therapy, pediatrics, neurological rehabilitation, mental health, or geriatrics) are an advantage.
Experience
- New graduates may be considered for entry-level positions.
- Previous clinical experience in hospitals, rehabilitation centers, community health, schools, mental health services, or private practice is preferred.
- Experience working with pediatric, adult, or geriatric populations is an advantage.
