Job Description: Manufacturing Unit Division Manager
Job Summary
The Manufacturing Unit Division Manager is responsible for managing the overall operations, productivity, quality, and profitability of the manufacturing division. The role involves leading production teams, optimizing manufacturing processes, ensuring efficient resource utilization, maintaining quality standards, and achieving production targets while complying with safety and operational requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Production & Operations Management
- Manage the complete manufacturing unit operations to achieve production targets, quality objectives, and delivery commitments.
- Develop and implement production plans, schedules, and operational strategies.
- Monitor daily production activities and ensure efficient utilization of manpower, machinery, and materials.
- Improve manufacturing processes to increase productivity, reduce waste, and optimize costs.
- Ensure smooth coordination between production, maintenance, quality, procurement, and logistics teams.
- Monitor equipment performance and coordinate preventive maintenance activities to minimize downtime.
- Establish and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs) for manufacturing operations.
Quality & Process Improvement
- Ensure products are manufactured according to quality standards, customer requirements, and specifications.
- Collaborate with QA/QC teams to resolve quality issues and implement corrective actions.
- Implement continuous improvement initiatives, lean manufacturing practices, and process optimization programs.
- Monitor production efficiency, rejection rates, and operational performance indicators.
- Drive initiatives to improve productivity, reduce defects, and enhance operational excellence.
Team Leadership & Workforce Management
- Lead, motivate, and develop production supervisors, engineers, operators, and support staff.
- Plan manpower requirements and ensure effective workforce allocation.
- Conduct performance reviews and provide coaching to team members.
- Promote a culture of safety, teamwork, accountability, and continuous improvement.
- Ensure employee compliance with company policies and operational procedures.
Cost Control & Planning
- Manage manufacturing budgets, operational costs, and resource utilization.
- Identify cost-saving opportunities without compromising quality or safety.
- Monitor material consumption, production losses, and operational expenses.
- Prepare operational reports, production analysis, and performance updates for management.
- Support strategic planning and expansion initiatives for the manufacturing division.
Health, Safety & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental (HSE) policies.
- Promote safe working practices and ensure proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Conduct regular operational reviews and safety meetings.
- Ensure compliance with statutory requirements and industry standards.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum 8–12 years of experience in manufacturing operations, including management-level experience.
- Proven experience managing a production unit, plant, or manufacturing division.
- Strong knowledge of production planning, process improvement, quality management, and cost control.
- Experience with manufacturing systems, ERP systems, and production reporting tools.
- Knowledge of lean manufacturing, Six Sigma, TPM, or other continuous improvement methodologies is preferred.
