Job Description – Technical Office Engineer (Construction)
Position: Technical Office Engineer
Job Summary:
The Technical Office Engineer is responsible for providing technical support to construction projects by preparing and reviewing engineering documents, coordinating with project teams, ensuring compliance with project specifications, and assisting in planning, estimation, procurement, and documentation.
Key Responsibilities
- Review contract documents, specifications, drawings, and Bill of Quantities (BOQ).
- Prepare shop drawings, coordination drawings, and as-built drawings.
- Review and coordinate engineering designs with consultants and subcontractors.
- Prepare material submittals, technical submittals, and method statements for client approval.
- Assist in quantity take-offs, cost estimation, and budget monitoring.
- Coordinate with procurement to ensure timely sourcing of approved materials and equipment.
- Prepare Requests for Information (RFIs), Technical Queries (TQs), and Requests for Inspection (RFIs).
- Monitor design revisions and maintain document control.
- Support project planning by preparing work schedules, resource plans, and progress reports.
- Coordinate with site engineers to resolve technical issues and ensure proper implementation of drawings.
- Review subcontractor technical submissions and ensure compliance with project requirements.
- Participate in project meetings and provide technical recommendations.
- Assist in variation orders, claims, and project close-out documentation.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Typically 3–8 years of experience in a technical office or project engineering role within the construction industry.
- Experience in commercial, residential, industrial, or infrastructure projects.
- Familiarity with FIDIC contracts and construction documentation is an advantage.

- Document management systems (Aconex, Procore, Autodesk Construction Cloud, or similar)
Reporting To
- Technical Office Manager
- Project Manager
- Engineering Manager (depending on the organization)
Working Environment
- Primarily office-based with regular visits to construction sites for coordination and technical support.
- Requires close collaboration with design consultants, site engineers, procurement teams, and project management to ensure accurate and timely project execution.
