Job Description – Tailor
We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Tailor to measure, cut, alter, repair, and stitch garments according to customer requirements and company standards. The ideal candidate should have strong sewing skills, knowledge of fabrics and garment construction, and excellent attention to detail.
Key Responsibilities
- Take accurate measurements of customers and record measurements properly.
- Cut fabrics according to patterns, measurements, and garment specifications.
- Stitch and assemble garments using sewing machines and hand-sewing techniques.
- Alter, repair, resize, and modify garments as requested.
- Prepare garments for fittings and make necessary adjustments.
- Ensure proper fitting, finishing, stitching quality, and overall appearance.
- Work with different types of fabrics, linings, zippers, buttons, and other garment accessories.
- Operate and maintain sewing machines, cutting tools, irons, and other tailoring equipment.
- Identify fabric defects and report issues before cutting or stitching.
- Complete tailoring work within agreed timelines.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
- Follow garment specifications, quality standards, and customer preferences.
- Handle customer garments carefully and maintain professional service.
- Assist with fabric selection, style recommendations, and design adjustments when required.
- Maintain records of customer orders and alterations where applicable.
- Perform other tailoring duties assigned by management.
Requirements
- Previous experience as a Tailor, Dressmaker, Garment Technician, or similar role.
- Good knowledge of garment cutting, stitching, fitting, and alteration techniques.
- Proficiency in operating sewing machines and tailoring equipment.
- Ability to take accurate body measurements.
- Good knowledge of different fabrics and garment materials.
- Strong attention to detail and quality.
- Good hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity.
- Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
- Good communication and customer-service skills.
- Formal tailoring or garment-making training is an advantage.
