Job Description: Technician

Role Overview

The Technician is responsible for carrying out installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, inspection, repair, and technical support activities to ensure equipment, machinery, systems, and facilities operate safely and efficiently.

Key Responsibilities

Perform routine preventive and corrective maintenance on equipment, machinery, and technical systems.
Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, electronic, or technical issues.
Carry out repairs, replacements, adjustments, and equipment servicing as required.
Install, test, commission, and maintain equipment and technical systems.
Conduct regular inspections to identify potential faults and maintenance requirements.
Follow maintenance schedules, standard operating procedures, and technical specifications.
Record maintenance activities, breakdowns, repairs, and spare-parts usage accurately.
Respond promptly to equipment breakdowns and technical support requests.
Use hand tools, power tools, testing equipment, and diagnostic instruments safely and effectively.
Coordinate with engineers, supervisors, operators, and other departments to resolve technical issues.
Maintain proper inventory and usage records of tools, spare parts, and maintenance materials.
Ensure all work is performed in accordance with safety, quality, and environmental requirements.
Participate in equipment installation, modification, testing, and improvement projects.
Support root-cause analysis and continuous-improvement initiatives.
Maintain a clean, organized, and safe working environment.
Escalate complex technical problems to the appropriate engineer or supervisor.

Qualifications

Diploma / ITI / Technical certification in Mechanical, Electrical, Electronics, Instrumentation, or a related technical field.
Relevant hands-on experience as a Technician or in a similar technical role.
Good knowledge of equipment maintenance and troubleshooting.
Ability to read and understand technical drawings, manuals, and wiring diagrams where applicable.
Basic computer and documentation skills.
Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities.
Good communication and teamwork skills.
Ability to work independently and handle breakdown/emergency situations.

Preferred Skills

Experience with preventive and predictive maintenance.
Knowledge of PLCs, electrical panels, motors, sensors, or mechanical systems, depending on the specialization.
Familiarity with CMMS/maintenance management systems.
Knowledge of workplace health and safety procedures.
Ability to use diagnostic and measurement instruments.

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

Equipment uptime and reliability.
Preventive maintenance completion rate.
Breakdown response and resolution time.
First-time repair effectiveness.
Maintenance-related downtime.
Compliance with safety and maintenance procedures.
Accuracy of maintenance records.
Effective utilization of tools and spare parts
