Family Medicine Specialist — Job Description

Job Summary

The Family Medicine Specialist provides comprehensive, patient-centered medical care to individuals and families across different age groups. The role involves diagnosis and treatment of acute and chronic conditions, preventive healthcare, health education, and coordination of specialist care when required.

Key Responsibilities

Provide comprehensive primary and family medical care to patients of all ages.
Assess, diagnose, and manage acute and chronic medical conditions.
Conduct medical consultations, physical examinations, and appropriate investigations.
Develop and implement individualized treatment and follow-up plans.
Provide preventive healthcare, including health screening, vaccinations, and lifestyle counseling.
Manage common outpatient conditions and minor procedures within the physician’s scope of practice.
Monitor patients with chronic diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, asthma, and cardiovascular conditions.
Refer patients to appropriate specialists when necessary and coordinate continuity of care.
Maintain accurate, confidential, and up-to-date patient medical records.
Educate patients and families regarding diagnosis, treatment, medications, and preventive health.
Respond appropriately to urgent medical situations and stabilize patients when required.
Work collaboratively with nurses, allied health professionals, specialists, and other healthcare staff.
Participate in clinical meetings, quality-improvement initiatives, audits, and continuing medical education.
Comply with hospital policies, professional standards, and applicable healthcare regulations.

Qualifications

Medical degree (MBBS or equivalent) from a recognized institution.
Postgraduate qualification in Family Medicine, General Practice, or an equivalent specialty.
Valid medical license/registration in the relevant jurisdiction.
Current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS); additional certifications may be preferred.
Relevant clinical experience in primary care or family medicine.
