Senior Procurement Engineer – Job Description
We are looking for an experienced and technically strong Senior Procurement Engineer to manage the procurement of engineering materials, equipment, spare parts, and services. The role involves supplier sourcing and evaluation, technical and commercial negotiations, purchase order management, cost optimization, and ensuring timely delivery in line with project and operational requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage end-to-end procurement activities for engineering materials, equipment, components, and services.
- Review purchase requisitions, technical specifications, drawings, and project requirements.
- Identify, evaluate, and develop reliable suppliers and subcontractors.
- Obtain and analyze technical and commercial quotations from suppliers.
- Prepare bid comparisons and make recommendations based on price, quality, technical compliance, and delivery.
- Negotiate prices, payment terms, delivery schedules, warranties, and other commercial conditions.
- Prepare and issue purchase orders in accordance with approved requirements.
- Coordinate with engineering, project, production, stores, finance, and quality departments.
- Monitor supplier performance and ensure timely delivery of materials and equipment.
- Follow up on purchase orders and resolve delivery, quality, and technical issues.
- Review supplier documentation, certificates, inspection reports, and compliance documents.
- Coordinate technical clarifications between suppliers and engineering teams.
- Support vendor inspections, material inspections, and quality-control activities when required.
- Maintain procurement records, supplier databases, quotations, purchase orders, and related documentation.
- Identify opportunities for cost reduction, value engineering, and procurement optimization.
- Monitor market prices, supplier capacity, lead times, and availability of critical materials.
- Ensure procurement activities comply with company policies, project specifications, and applicable standards.
- Manage urgent and critical procurement requirements while minimizing project delays.
- Develop procurement schedules aligned with project timelines and material requirements.
- Prepare procurement status reports and provide updates to management.
- Support supplier audits, performance evaluations, and contract negotiations.
- Mentor and guide junior procurement personnel where required.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
- 5–8 years of experience in engineering procurement, preferably in construction, manufacturing, EPC, oil & gas, industrial projects, or a related industry.
- Strong understanding of engineering materials, equipment, specifications, and technical documentation.
- Proven experience in supplier sourcing, quotation evaluation, negotiation, and purchase order management.
- Good knowledge of procurement processes and supply-chain practices.
- Experience working with ERP/procurement systems and MS Excel.
- Strong commercial awareness and negotiation skills.
- Ability to read and understand technical specifications, drawings, and datasheets.
- Good knowledge of supplier evaluation and quality requirements.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and coordination abilities.
- Ability to manage multiple procurement activities and meet strict deadlines.
