Senior Joinery Draughtsman – Job Description
We are looking for an experienced and detail-oriented Senior Joinery Draughtsman to prepare detailed technical drawings and production/shop drawings for custom joinery, furniture, cabinetry, and interior fit-out works. The role requires strong knowledge of joinery construction, materials, hardware, manufacturing methods, and coordination with design, production, site, and project teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare detailed joinery shop drawings, production drawings, and installation drawings.
- Develop plans, elevations, sections, details, and construction drawings for custom joinery and furniture.
- Interpret architectural, interior design, and concept drawings and convert them into detailed joinery drawings.
- Prepare detailed drawings for wardrobes, kitchens, counters, reception desks, wall paneling, doors, cabinets, furniture, and other bespoke joinery items.
- Develop construction details, material specifications, dimensions, sections, and fixing details.
- Ensure drawings are accurate, practical, and suitable for manufacturing and installation.
- Select and specify appropriate materials, finishes, veneers, laminates, solid wood, plywood, MDF, hardware, and accessories.
- Coordinate joinery drawings with architectural, MEP, structural, and interior design requirements.
- Incorporate design changes, consultant comments, and client approvals into drawings.
- Prepare cutting lists, material schedules, hardware schedules, and other production-related documentation where required.
- Coordinate with production teams to ensure drawings are suitable for fabrication.
- Coordinate with site teams to resolve installation and dimensional issues.
- Conduct site measurements and verify existing site conditions before preparing final drawings.
- Review drawings for dimensions, tolerances, material compatibility, and constructability.
- Prepare as-built drawings and update drawings based on site conditions and approved changes.
- Maintain proper drawing registers, revisions, approvals, and document-control procedures.
- Liaise with designers, architects, engineers, project managers, production teams, and subcontractors.
- Review junior draughtsmen's drawings and provide technical guidance and corrections.
- Ensure all drawings comply with company standards, project specifications, and approved design intent.
- Assist in resolving technical and fabrication-related issues during production and installation.
- Meet drawing submission deadlines and prioritize drawings according to project requirements.
Requirements
- Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Interior Design, Architecture, Civil Engineering, Drafting, or a related field.
- 5–8 years of relevant experience in joinery drafting, interior fit-out, furniture, or woodworking industries.
- Strong practical knowledge of joinery construction and manufacturing processes.
- Excellent knowledge of AutoCAD and technical drawing standards.
- Experience preparing detailed shop drawings and production drawings for custom joinery.
- Ability to understand architectural and interior design drawings.
- Good knowledge of joinery materials, finishes, hardware, fittings, and installation methods.
- Experience with site measurements and coordination with production and installation teams.
- Knowledge of SketchUp, 3D modeling, Revit, or other CAD software is an advantage.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Good communication and coordination skills.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet tight project deadlines.
