Heavy Vehicle Driver — Job Description
Job Summary
The Heavy Vehicle Driver is responsible for safely operating heavy commercial vehicles to transport goods, materials, or equipment between designated locations. The role requires compliance with road safety regulations, proper vehicle handling, timely deliveries, and routine vehicle inspections.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate heavy vehicles safely and responsibly according to company and road safety regulations.
- Transport goods, materials, or equipment to assigned destinations on time.
- Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the vehicle.
- Check vehicle condition, fuel, tires, brakes, lights, oil, and other essential components.
- Ensure proper loading, unloading, and securement of cargo.
- Maintain accurate records of trips, fuel consumption, deliveries, and vehicle maintenance.
- Follow designated routes and delivery schedules.
- Verify delivery documents, invoices, waybills, and receiving records.
- Report accidents, vehicle breakdowns, delays, damage, or other incidents immediately.
- Keep the vehicle clean and in good operating condition.
- Coordinate with logistics, warehouse, and transport teams regarding deliveries and collections.
- Follow all applicable traffic laws, company policies, and health and safety procedures.
- Assist with basic vehicle maintenance and identify mechanical issues requiring attention.
- Ensure all required vehicle and driver documents are valid and available.
Required Qualifications
- Valid heavy vehicle driving licence appropriate to the vehicle category.
- Previous experience as a heavy vehicle/commercial driver preferred.
- Good knowledge of local and long-distance routes.
- Basic knowledge of vehicle maintenance and safety procedures.
- Physically fit and capable of handling loading/unloading activities when required.
- Clean and responsible driving record is preferred.
