Heavy Bus Driver — Job Description
Job Summary
The Heavy Bus Driver is responsible for safely operating company or passenger buses to transport employees, customers, students, or other passengers according to assigned routes and schedules. The driver must ensure passenger safety, maintain the vehicle in good condition, and comply with all traffic and transportation regulations.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate heavy passenger buses safely and responsibly.
- Transport passengers according to assigned routes and schedules.
- Ensure the safety and comfort of passengers throughout the journey.
- Follow all traffic laws, road safety regulations, and company policies.
- Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the bus.
- Check brakes, tires, lights, mirrors, fuel, oil, and other essential components.
- Report mechanical problems, breakdowns, accidents, or safety concerns promptly.
- Maintain the cleanliness and general condition of the bus.
- Follow designated routes and maintain punctuality.
- Assist passengers with boarding and alighting when required.
- Ensure passengers follow applicable safety requirements.
- Maintain accurate trip, mileage, fuel, and passenger records.
- Handle transport-related documents and permits as required.
- Coordinate with the Transport Manager or Fleet Supervisor regarding schedules and operational issues.
- Exercise extra caution while driving in heavy traffic, difficult weather, and crowded areas.
- Respond appropriately to emergencies and follow established emergency procedures.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Heavy Motor Vehicle / Heavy Passenger Vehicle driving licence appropriate to the vehicle and applicable local regulations.
- Previous experience as a bus or heavy vehicle driver preferred.
- Good knowledge of local routes and traffic regulations.
- Basic knowledge of vehicle inspection and maintenance.
- Good driving record with a strong focus on passenger safety.
- Physically fit and capable of working flexible shifts when required.
