Transportation Manager

We are seeking an experienced, organized, and safety-focused Transportation Manager to oversee the school’s transportation operations. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring safe, efficient, reliable, and cost-effective transportation services for students and staff. This role involves managing drivers, buses, routes, schedules, maintenance, compliance, and communication with parents and school leadership.

Key Responsibilities

Plan, coordinate, and manage daily school transportation operations.
Develop and optimize bus routes, schedules, pick-up/drop-off points, and transportation plans.
Ensure the safe and timely transportation of students and staff.
Recruit, train, supervise, and evaluate drivers, bus attendants, and transportation personnel.
Ensure all drivers and transportation staff comply with school policies and applicable transportation regulations.
Monitor driver performance, attendance, punctuality, conduct, and safety standards.
Maintain accurate records of drivers, vehicles, licenses, permits, inspections, insurance, and maintenance.
Coordinate regular servicing, inspections, repairs, and preventive maintenance of school vehicles.
Conduct routine checks to ensure buses are safe, clean, and fit for operation.
Implement and monitor transportation safety procedures and emergency protocols.
Ensure appropriate student supervision and safeguarding procedures are followed during transportation.
Monitor transportation operations through tracking systems, GPS, or other available technology.
Respond promptly to transportation-related incidents, delays, breakdowns, emergencies, and parent concerns.
Maintain effective communication with parents, students, drivers, school staff, and management.
Investigate transportation complaints, accidents, and incidents and prepare appropriate reports.
Coordinate substitute buses and drivers when required to minimize service disruption.
Monitor transportation expenses, fuel consumption, maintenance costs, and operational budgets.
Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, reduce costs, and enhance service quality.
Ensure compliance with school policies, health and safety requirements, safeguarding standards, and applicable local regulations.
Prepare regular transportation reports and operational updates for school leadership.
Support transportation arrangements for field trips, school events, examinations, and special activities.

Qualifications & Skills

Bachelor’s degree in Transportation Management, Logistics, Business Administration, or a related field preferred.
Relevant experience in transportation, fleet management, logistics, or school transportation.
Previous supervisory or managerial experience is preferred.
Strong knowledge of transportation safety practices and fleet operations.
Excellent organizational, planning, and problem-solving skills.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to manage staff and coordinate multiple transportation activities simultaneously.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and transportation/fleet management systems.
Ability to respond calmly and effectively to emergencies and unexpected situations.
Strong commitment to student safety, safeguarding, and service excellence.
Valid driving license and relevant local transportation qualifications, where applicable.
