Aluminum Façade Designer
Role Overview:
The Aluminum Façade Designer is a creative and technical professional responsible for the conceptualization, design, and engineering development of aluminum façade systems. This role focuses on aesthetics, performance, innovation, and compliance, acting as the bridge between architectural vision and practical buildability. They create the initial design intent and solve complex technical challenges.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conceptual Design & Development: Create innovative and aesthetically pleasing façade designs based on architectural concepts, client requirements, and site-specific constraints.
- Technical Design & Engineering: Develop detailed design solutions, including material selection, structural calculations (in collaboration with structural engineers), thermal performance, water tightness, and acoustics.
- System Selection & Detailing: Choose appropriate aluminum façade systems (e.g., Unitized Curtain Wall, Stick System, Window Wall, Cassette Cladding) and design critical connections, joints, and interfaces.
- Performance & Compliance: Ensure all designs meet relevant local building codes, international standards (e.g., ASTM, AAMA), and project-specific performance criteria for wind load, seismic activity, and environmental factors.
- Collaboration: Work closely with architects, structural engineers, and clients to align the façade design with the overall project goals. Present design proposals and lead technical discussions.
- Prototyping & Testing: Oversee the creation of mock-ups and coordinate laboratory or on-site performance testing to validate design integrity.
- Bill of Materials (BOM): Generate high-level lists of materials, components, and systems required for the façade.
- Value Engineering: Propose design alternatives to optimize cost, manufacturing efficiency, and installation without compromising performance or aesthetics.
- Review Shop Drawings: Check and approve the detailed shop drawings produced by draftsmen to ensure they accurately reflect the design intent.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Civil/Structural Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering.
- Experience: 5+ years of experience in façade engineering, architectural design, or a related field.
- Technical Proficiency:
- Advanced knowledge of aluminum façade systems, glazing, seals, and insulation.
- Strong understanding of building physics (thermodynamics, acoustics, structural mechanics).
- Proficiency in 3D modeling software (e.g., Revit, Rhino, SketchUp).
- Familiarity with calculation and analysis software (e.g., AutoCAD Structural Detailing, thermal modeling software).
- Soft Skills:
- Excellent creative and problem-solving abilities.
- Strong communication and presentation skills.
- Project management and leadership capabilities.
- Attention to detail and a commitment to quality.
