Job Overview:
The Pastry Commis is an apprentice in the pastry kitchen, responsible for assisting in the production of desserts, breads, pastries, and other baked goods. This role is ideal for someone with a passion for precision and the art of patisserie.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist Pastry Chefs in the preparation of a wide variety of desserts, pastries, cakes, and breads.
- Perform basic tasks such as weighing ingredients, preparing mixes, and simple finishing (e.g., glazing, dusting with sugar).
- Maintain the pastry section's mise en place, ensuring all components are prepared to recipe standards.
- Ensure all equipment and work surfaces in the pastry kitchen are kept impeccably clean and sanitized.
- Properly store and label all pastry items, adhering to strict rotation policies.
- Learn and adhere to precise recipes, measurements, and baking times.
- Handle delicate and expensive ingredients with care.
Qualifications and Skills:
- A passion for pastry and baking.
- Culinary school training with a focus on pastry is a strong advantage.
- Meticulous attention to detail and a commitment to quality.
- Patience and a creative flair.
- Understanding of basic baking techniques and food safety is preferred.
