Job Summary
The Piping Engineer will provide technical and engineering support for all piping activities on site. This role is crucial for ensuring that piping fabrication, erection, and testing are carried out in accordance with project specifications, design drawings, and applicable international codes. The engineer will work closely with the construction superintendents and foremen to resolve technical issues and ensure work progression.
Key Responsibilities
- Technical Support: Provide daily technical guidance to the construction team on all piping-related activities, including fabrication, erection, alignment, and supporting.
- Drawing & Document Review: Interpret and apply P&IDs, Isometric drawings, piping GA's, and structural drawings. Review and approve WPS/PQR/WPQ documents.
- Material Management: Coordinate with the material team to ensure timely availability of pipes, fittings, valves, and supports. Verify material certifications and traceability.
- Quality Assurance: Ensure all site piping works comply with project specifications and relevant codes (ASME B31.1 / B31.3). Witness and document fit-up, welding, NDE, and hydro-testing activities.
- Issue Resolution: Identify and resolve technical queries and field discrepancies, liaising with the design office when required.
- Planning & Coordination: Assist the planning team in developing short-term look-ahead schedules and provide input on progress and potential delays.
- Site Supervision: Oversee subcontractors and direct workforce to ensure work is performed safely and correctly.
Qualifications & Experience
- Education: B.E. in Mechanical Engineering or a Diploma in Mechanical Engineering.
- Experience: Minimum of 8 years of experience in piping fabrication and construction projects within the Oil & Gas or related industry.
Skills & Competencies
- In-depth knowledge of ASME B31.1 and/or B31.3 codes.
- Practical understanding of WPS (Welding Procedure Specification), PQR (Procedure Qualification Record), and WPQ (Welder Performance Qualification).
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting Isometric drawings, P&IDs, and other technical documents.
- Basic knowledge of planning and scheduling principles.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced site environment.
